Other factions have no NPC population, yet they have a shipline. I guess they're getting a population in .86. Even so...how does that matter? A small group can't have it's own ship? Also, I ask since actually I have no idea. Will there be RoS NPCs in .86?
RoS's shipline is pretty much the BW shipline with a new texture job. Since they diplomacy is different from the OC, I expect them to have their own NPC in 86, but I am not 100% sure on the matter.
Other factions like the HF (unless I'm mistaken) have their own NPC.
All the factions getting new stuff have their own bases somewhere. MM does not, nor does it possess its own npc tag. That's one of the reasons. As said by many, the faction is quite small in-Rp.
' Wrote:Do they have their own stations? Besides, being able to fix something is much different than designing what you're fixing. I can fix my computer, I can place the parts where they need to go, etc. but that doesn't mean I could design one, make the blueprints/schematics/etc just because I can fix a computer, for example.
Doesn't prevent MMs from hiring highly specialized engineers, since MMs are indeed rich and well-known. (I doubt conquering so many goverment contracts would be easy job for little group; but it's Disco).
' Wrote:Actually both the Eagle and the Sabre are built by Zoners. At least that is part of OSI's role play.
As for why Zoners were brought into the topic of a generic merc ship? Take a look at the model and read the first post. The model takes elements from the Zoner gunboat, thus the modeler decided to say that Zoners designed the ship for open sale (or directly for the MM).
Would be kind of weird to claim that BMM designed and built a ship that is based of a Zoner design no?
I have to dissappoint you, Eagle's most likely to be built by DSE or Ageira - it's Libertonian and has some "Libertonian" features in it (like civilians actually flying military-grade ships - probably Liberty designed those the first). The only ship-building corporations in Liberty are Ageira (which builds certain ship parts, rather) and DSE, and they both are interested in having something for free sale.
' Wrote:I see some passive agressivness in that, but maybe it's just me. Anywho, no big deal.
Not that I'm complaining, I have no problems with the ship being civilian or something of the sort. But I need to ask....why?
The reasons I want this to be a a MM line.... Well, first of all, tons of other factions are getting their own shipline. I don't see how they're different. Certainly, the roleplay for a snub line for MM is there as well. And, most importantly, it could attract the much needed new players. As it is now, it's far more convenient to be an indie merc, for a whole bunch of reasons. A shipline would be a good motivator.
I'm MM, but I'll say: if we're getting boring and die, then let it be so. :\
' Wrote:And stop getting zoners to anything around here. That is already hillarious how zoner movement rised from some outcasts (not mean the faction) to billions of people who flying strongest capitals in game, running trade fleets of 5000 cargo ships compared to hugest house corporations and having stations all over around and designing 2\3 of new ships. I think it's already came too far so it will be good to at lest to hold on with adding even more zoner stuff.
Also ship will be good if it'll get some fins and wings. Will be good to go as generic ship, once designed for MM by some small shipbuilding company and then ship made it's way to the black market so anyone can use.
Indeed, Zoners are getting overused. But if designer wants to keep this ship unaffiliated, then Zoners or IMG are the best his preys - IMG is hostile to MM, though.

You don't disappoint. Zoners do build Eagles. It is a civilian model and OSI's role played for awhile now that we build them. If you don't like it, we really don't care.
As for Zoners being overused, I agree its so the ship is unaffiliated. I don't see what the issue in having Zoners design the ship for the free market is. It won't be a Zoner exclusive ship. It will be just like the Virage and Marauder. I share the complaint about how the Zoner movement exploded 1000 fold in 20 years. I've long been for removing our cap ships. :P

Back to the model at hand. I agree that it doesn't need to be Mando exclusive and Dieter has said he doesn't care if it is Mando exclusive or not. I think everyone who plays a merc can agree that it be nice to have an alternative to the Sabre or Eagle.
I'm not saying I don't want more civilian ships, I'm just saying that would be nice to have our own (if not this one, something else), since many, many factions have. Seems ridiculous to me that some faction get BSs () and we can get even some meagre snubs.

I don't think it will fit for a group of mercenaries, as proficient as they may be (both inRP and on the server) to have their own ship, let alone a shipline.
I'm curious to know, what factions with the same amount of resources as the MM have their own ship line (possibly with BSes) ?
Well, roleplay wise and not only, the Mandos, are very very rich. You said it yourself, they are efficient. Money=stuff done. It's a simple equation. And tell me, how exactly do you figure which faction has enough resources to have a shipline and which doesn't? Finally, not gonna give any examples, I don't want to point fingers at anyone. Mostly because, even if I think that some factions having large Capital Ships is a bit of a stretch, honestly, I woulnd't have them removed. I'm all for variety and freedom of choice.
