[VPG] Vigilante Patrol Group

ID: Vigilante
IFF: Freelancer
Tag: [VPG]

History:

817AS: As the price of living started to rise piracy levels skyrocketed. With that the number of vigilantes began to rise aswell. Self-funded and determine, they brought many criminals to justice, but many of them worked alone and were killed because of the criminals advanced technology and large ships.

After a while of this going on many Vigilantes started to work together, other civilians even began to give them information on pirate whereabouts, but misinformation lead to the deaths of many, ambushes were set, battle cruisers sent in, there were outgunned and there was nothing they could do.

818AS: A pilot by the name of Jason Flint realised that something had to be done or the pirates would just keep slaughtering more and more vigilantes. He started the VPG and sent out the members to all the major houses in Sirius to gain more support. Some joined, others were hesitant about working with others and some completely refused and said nothing will ever change.

'€œLaw enforcement can only go so far, they are bound by their laws and paper trails, but we are not. We can track down those who commit crimes and punish them. '€œJason Flint 818AS.
Faction Goal: The VPG has only one goal, and that is to make space travel safer for other civilians by reducing the number of pirates and terrorists that operate in populated areas, by any means necessary.

Bounty Contracts: Don'€™t even bother asking us to carry out a bounty contract for you, were not in it for the money.

That is an edited and spell checked version of your main history. It sounds pretty good for a starting idea. where you tinking of working out of base wise? Who is your main nemesis or is there one? Do you have any relation to the BHG player or NPC faction's. What is the stand point of your vigilantes if the traveler is being harrassed needlessly by lawfuls?

For example:

Smuggler John is heading to Rochester, having no real contraband at this time, but having a history of being shady, the LN or LPI currently patroling decides to intercept and badger John, even though he is completely within the law and minding his own business.

How do you respond?

If you leave them be, the population may see you as just another lapdog of the Government.

If you interfere on behalf of the smuggler you risk negative reaction by the Law, and their big ships with the bubble gum machines on top.

If you ignore it completely, then you aren't REALLY looking out for the innocent, but out to hunt pirates and such and no better than any other Hunter or Merc within 3 systems.

That is my first main thoughts. I say go for it and make sure you get your responses ready and known, so that when they happen you aren't taken off guard.

Good luck.

Looking into returning, maybe.

I dunno about this.
I mean, the stuff you've got down sounds good, but Vigilantes and organization just don't work well together in my mind.

Characters
Alan Markson: The Hellfire Legion's Lord Commander
The Perihelion: Freeport Four's guardian, and yet much more. Missing and assumed Lost with all hands.
Eric Dresmund: Junker, smuggler, thief. Last seen drunk on Beaumont
Vayrn Wyard: IMG Recon pilot turned Neo-Terran Captain. Last location unknown

That write-up looks like a solid start. Perhaps you might want to talk about specifics, like who your informers are, where you like to hang out, and if there are any specific groups you really hate. Perhaps one or more characters might hold a grudge against another pirate for setting a trap for other vigilantes.

There was a sig here, once.

you could even get the pirate factions to possibly help build ideas for RP and such it has a lot of potential, but it hits a lot of grey areas that will cause careful planning.

Looking into returning, maybe.

I have to disagree on this, if there are groups of "independent pirates" working together who have access to whole Sirius, Vigilante would be nice to see (and they even have more restrictions).

Bit more on topic.

Chucc asked a good question, if you fight for population it often means making government angry. But of course, making one government angry doesn't mean you get them all. Little piece of advice, always get evidence and do propaganda for public, basically how I see it inRP, if government would try to stop you, people would revolt on some level.

All in all, I like to idea, is new , refreshing and it would be nice addition to see on this server as it is pretty unique.

Justice League

Avengers

The Smurfs?

@Firestorm747: Go for it, but don't stay only on a PvP based faction, you have plenty of option to get groups around sirius to support your campaign.

Sadly, all encounters I had with Vigilantes in the past were unpleasent. This looks like a breath of fresh air. Go for it, and good luck.

Actually, the way I understand vigilante is that they would only come after you if you are carrying contraband and make you drop it. Not if you are carrying legal cargo or nothing at all. Vigilantes are not going to interfere with the lawfuls of the house.

They are not the police.
