90% of those freelance mercs fly RH gb's or Lib Battle cruisers. And then they sit around the omicrons killing whatever moves...no RP whatsoever......

*sigh* Sorry I had to get that out, im tired of fighting agianst all odds for malta and then a haveing a merc show up and end it all......

I know. How many of them are actually on Mercenary contracts? Only the Reavers and Jupiter Guild really work on a contract basis.

Are not the mercenaries supposed to be involving in operations on the lawful side, if we read their ID info?
Most of the mercenary ID holders I have come across with are using the loophole of the slight vagueness their ID holds within the meaning in order to serve for any sides which would prove to be the best beneficial way for their survival since they believe the mercenary ID is something that could be used in both sides in the name of fullfilling contracts. I am not talking about decent RP bound contract fullfillers here but the ones who use the loophole to make things worse. Best way to clarify the doubt here is to put the definition precisely to avoid bitter events totally out of RP. One more thing is, as blunt has already asserted that their wide range of equipment selection. Having anything basically does not fit in to any kind of RP on this server so you need to limit yourself somewhere. Just because of the vagueness that the mercenaries have, TBH has declared the mercs unwelcome in Gamma. And the concept mercenary will be something like more untrustable day by day if more people join the lustful usage of loopholes. Maybe best way is to seperate Bounty Hunting from being a mercenary since theres a faction called as Bounty Hunters while mercenary is another supporting concept not based on a vanilla faction.

i personally think a Merc shouldn't even be allowed cruisers and BS's, lets face it a merc is in for the money the killing and the rep. each one of these things do not get done in a cruiser and a BS. they both cost to much im pretty sure they would be out drinking, making love, and lining they're own pockets with gold. not saving every tid bit to get a huge ship so they can make even more tid bits.

they should stick to fighters and GB's because lets face it noone is gonna higher a merc from half way accross the system thats in a ship thats gonna take em a hour to get to its location to discover oh the fights done nevermind you don't get payed.

they would have small fast ships to get to they're location fast and do they're job fast so they can get right back onto the next one.

and i personally think a bounty hunter is a man who walks into a place looks at a rather large wall with many posts or in this case probably a interactive console. searches through a database of names of perpitrators and goes out and hunts em down for such and such a reason ie Murder, Attempted Murder, Robbery w/e. get a momento or just plain captures the perp and gets paid by the poster. (in this case a screen shot)

Seriously, you don't see mercs wandering around with too much gear, it just gets in the way. Besides, without major backing, they can't maintain a large ship effectively.

2: the ability to work for lawfuls and unlawfuls.
As was stated before, A merc relies on his rep to get work, abuse would end quickly when players realize doing so would land them KOS with everyone.

Does it make any sense for a merc to take on a system full of capital ships in a fighter? Im trying to get a handle on the whole Merc philosophy myself. It seems most likely that following the ID exactly and to the letter would resolve most of these issues. The Mercs would be limited to using house and civilian gear and would also be more clear on the RP and contracts avaialble to them. As for not having the use of larger capital ships I would say cruisers are an acceptable class ship. Historically mercenaries have often been much better equipped and prepared than many resident militaries or militia's. Looking back in history this is indeed the case and many armies employed Mercs because of the superior equipment that they could bring. Lets not try to take anything away from the job the mercs have to do. When they get contracts it should be due to reputation but also because they can provide an edge that the house faction cannot.

I agree that pvp whoring with mercs is totally unacceptable and rules should be put in place to verify contracts.

Umm... Hullo? Sorry to interrupt, but what makes you say merc's wouldn't have the money to buy such a ship? Honestly, if a military hires me to fly into a terrorist system and do fleet-battle, I'm going to be wanting more than 5 mill.

Let's think realistically, in life, all those guns for hire take jobs for like... 400K... Ish... Maybe more. Woohoo, let's guard a caravan of Nomad Indonesian gypsies... If the employer is willing to pay us that much, then I'll guard them. Even if they only get paid 50K, that's enough to buy quite a bit. Sure, this is all based off of movies, shows, and the like... If any of you are mercs in RL, please correct me. But I'm not quite sure any of you are.

If a group wants me to put a bullet through a terrorist's head, or rig a car to explode to make it look like an accident; I'll do it. Come on, 400K in real life is enough to buy any gun, any car, any anything other than a huge mansion... Maybe four more caravans and I can have an episode of 'Cribs'. So why, with all the beautiful inflation and all that wazu yumminess, isn't a merc allowed to; or can't afford a BS?

I think the Corsairs and silly people are tired of making the wrong people mad and getting killed by people who drop out of cruise, fire on them and say, "Bill sends his regards! BWAH! BWAH HA! *zoom away*"

On topic! Mercs do anything... They'll lick somebody clean if they pay enough. Bounty Hunters pretend to be cool, get slaughtered by the Order, and are very limited by their ID and faction.

And what would a merc do with a battleship? The fuel costs and maintenance would cost more than payments. Crew would need paid.

Also, by the time a merc has earned enough money to buy a BS, do you not think he's take the money and retire?

Hmm... 50 credits for a gynormous tank of H-Fuel... I see your predicament. Plus, I agree... He prolly would have retired with 360 mill. But what if he's really trigger happy? Or wants to... Buy... A system. Or a continent. I don't know! Crew... Probably wouldn't want more than 9 mill, assuming the H-Fuel costed more than 1 mill. So there is still plenty of profit.

All I know is that with proper RP, like Master Theo's, a merc ID with a BS can be fine. The ID makes you neutral, but allows people to shoot at you. Nobody makes you get hired. It makes life more fun than floating about doing NPC missions.
