Im not going to lie - its a contributing factor. Pardon MY 2 cents worth, but its here because it seems to be a reoccuring problem that I do believe MOST players AND administrative people that have been here for longer that , say , 3 months, are painfully aware of,and it seems that nothing is being done about it.

I think that about sums it up.

This neither being rant or flame, just an observation, and a 4 year one at that.

What ever happened to the good ol days when a pirate was nervous, would ask you for a few units of your cargo,500k cash.....and your shoes or watch ?.....them was interesting times........

' Wrote:Vogel: while I agree that a lot of pirates do stupid things, I have to disagree on asking more than the trader makes is unreasonable. And yes, this thread didn't have quite a pleasant reaction, for different reasons. Personally, I don't like more limitations. Again, saddens me to see people do some things, but I won't be the one to tell them not to...never. I'd rather "make him pay" in game, rather than via OORP limitations and sanctions.
The limitations in place thus far are good in theory but don't fit all scenarios. They never will.

I disagree on the "more the trader makes" bit because let's face it: you spent 40 cumulative hours going from point A to B and you get 500,000,000 bucks. A pirate stops you and demands that much. Are you really going to pay it? Can he expect you to? At that point it's a blatantly obvious attempt at finding an excuse to simply shoot you. The pirates don't need your money; chances are they have enough in-game bucks stashed away to pay for multiple dreadnoughts. You can't be expected to react as if your life is in danger every single time, because it's not, and acting that out gets old fast. The kicker is that instead of joining the RM and shooting LN, or being an Outcast and slagging Corsairs, they chose to be a "pirate" and target things which cannot possibly fight back under anything save for the best of circumstances. That is somewhat insulting, because then the player behind the transport doesn't feel like he's being involved in a roleplay session, but is being preyed on by some other guy who got beat up in school and decided to become the bully himself. Hence, false advertising: it's not about roleplay when that happens.

But what's the alternative? How can you "make them pay" in-game if you can't attack again for 4 hours? If you suck at PVP or if you suffer insane amounts of lag which makes the game unplayable? Best of all, how can you vent when the only response here is from people saying "Whiner, deal with it, it's just a game, don't take it so seriously!" The truth is you have to take it somewhat seriously, at least in a game like this. You're investing a HELL of time in trying to do something, only to have it rebuffed, deleted, destroyed, etc. The consequences of loss, or of people denouncing its worth, results in a very natural form of anger, no different than if somebody splashed paint on your masterpiece, or if some jerk kicked over your sandcastle at the beach.

Which brings it back to the logical conclusion: this place will not change, not only because of how it's built but because people literally suck and are more than capable of abuse. If fighting fire with fire is no alternative, and if sanctions are no alternative, then the only thing that remains is to pretty much leave. That's hard to do when you count up the total hours you pissed away into it, but ultimately it's true. Having done so, that's around the point you laugh at people who tell you to "Stop whining", because you just know that if all of their stuff, be it their fake ships, or fake money, or fake reputation just poofed away, they'd be the same ones to flip out to one degree or another; many of the people here have vested interests they don't want to admit. The only ones who can say otherwise have stopped playing for so long or have become so bored of it all that they just haul out and leave. The rest don't have that alibi.

To be honest this whole community is like a societal petri dish. If you sit back and watch, the trends you see are eerily familiar: it's how the rest of Western society seems to work, only in a nicely condensed form that is easily seen as a whole.

I must say fellas, Rorry demands all the cargo when he knows he can sell it to a junker or have a friend pick it up just down the lane. I've demanded full cost/profit amount to do this before (aka 35 mil from a 5k ore hauler). And unless he's a dedicated RPer who's char is really afraid to die... then i'll have to kill him. then go make the 35 mil profit he left me.

Heres what I see, you guys get mad oorp that you can't make money because Pirates inRP are demanding it all. But inRP what pirate is gona make 'fair' demands.

Looky this:
A pirate finds a barge thats trading. inRP, if i was the pirate. I'd think "oh look a rich guy" and not just charge him for what his cargo will make him on that run alone. Heck if I was a pirate i'd threaten to kill him unless he gave me half his fortune....

BUT.... do I do this? Nope, and I don't think any other pirates do either (aka 500mil or die) Even if we charge over what your profit margin is, its completely normal inRP to do so, pirates are pirates mates....

And even if you do meet a couple of pirates who charge to much, you still end up making money. I sure did, from basic, normal ol' trading. Got my first BS and Desi that way... Its quite easy and this whole thing needs to 'fixing' in my opinion...

Cheers

What is also a reoccurring problem, one which many threads have been made about and will doubtless be the subject of whinery next month, are traders who "do not roleplay". More often than not, a trader will mash cruise, call his bomber buddies from the next station down or simply open fire in response to seeing a pirate. The pirate cannot trust to trader to lay back and take his roleplay, the trader cannot expect the pirate to run off in fear of his own roleplay, so consequently, these threads occur.

This is a symptom of the flaws inherent in our species. Either can it, fight for freedom and equality or jump off a cliff. The choice is yours.

Why would a pirate leave you alive? Be thankful they must demand something first = P

I made most of my money in 4.85 with many many embargos, with many many pirates, and not mining at all. And I was capable of buying whatever ship I wanted. And I'm not a super trader who escapes from every pirate, I've been pirated, for all my cargo, for 2 mil, for 500k, for many things. Even simply destroyed for belonging to a coorporation from a house you hate. And still, made more money that I needed.

And like me, anyone can make enough money to buy whatever they want.

I do understand that the lack of participation from the pirate's side, can be annoying sometimes. It's not just with the pirates, it's everywhere, there's always people who don't get too deep with their chars, or don't want, or something always happens that makes people play simply their chars.

Complaining that it's just the pirates who do that, makes me think that this is more related that you were succesfully killed/pirated, it's not just you, many people complain about the same, but I never saw a thread with the title "Traders don't RP with me, let's put more restrictions to their IDs". And when people see threads like this, they die for posting a "get over it". It happens, you wanna complain? Complain, it's good to vent things from time to time. But, there's no solution to change people's actitude, no matter what rules you add, or how hard you control them.

@Vogel: I've pirated for all the cargo more than once, I've forced people to drop all the cargo on my KNF more than once. I didn't do it because I got beated up in school, I was the bully in school! I pirated all the cargo because it made sense at that point, depending on the cargo, on my faction, on the trader's faction. Of course pirates target ships that they can beat, it's the whole point of being a pirate, you will not pirate a battleship or cruiser (although, I've seen it). One of the major problems here is that many people think other players want to be jerks and screw your fun, and no matter what the other player does, it will be always to screw your fun. Sometimes, they are jerks, but manytimes, people pre-judge the other player, and can't see beyond their own view of what's good role play, or how things should be played.

For more that this annoys you, this is a game, with many people playing it, things will not always come out the way we want, best way to deal with it is, chilling, laughing, and respawning.

Em. Could you please proove the fact that I died? Instead of judgung instantly, you should take time to ask what happened, before putting accusations that it is QQ thread after "death". I was only the spectator.

Yes, that is an extremely well thought out plan.
I hold lawfuls as law enforces, not corporations an their traders.

Pirates (Generic IDs) are free to expound upon their character and what his choices in life are. Some may be crazy and attack lawfuls. And what do you mean they don't attack lawfuls... what about THIS, and THIS, and THIS, and THIS, and THIS, and THIS.
POINT IS: Pirates DO attack lawfuls.... And I could find TONS more but I think my point is proven.

***About terrorists only being able to attack lawfuls and not civilians.... Thats just.... Well it ain't a terrorist then.

911 = Terrorists vs CIVILIANS
Car Bombs in UK = Terrorists vs CIVILIANS

And there are tons more as well but I haven't the time...

But seriously.... READ THIS
Show me a group of pirates standing against whole fleet of some Military. If you do, they are not pirates then, another terrorists.

Well. Yeah lock away the discussion. That's valueable too? Only that word did I find to express my opinion on what pirate did. Sorry, my English swearword dictionary is very limited.

There is difference between demanding whole cargo, as it bring a lot of profit, and pirating a freighter, snubcarft or etc. Or even pirating when ship is next to a station, and shoot it right after demand till it is destroyed.

You made money? That's the point! Today, most of pirates are not even pirating and only fights the law enforcers. They have low chance of having income. So thus, they are not pirates, and terrorists imho.

EDIT: 10 minutes after waking up. Might be a bit of dizzy. But I hope you'll be able to rad what I wrote.

Yes, let us not consider that there is another player we are interacting with. This is a game, this isn't real life. No one is going to get pissed at you because you let another player have some fun in this game too. No, your character would not leave even 1 credit on a trader ship he stopped if he was real; he however isn't real. He is a work of fiction in your mind and given life on this server. Would it be so wrong for you to allow another person to have their fun too?

I'm not saying let traders go every time you meet them. If they refuse to role play their part, feel free to be a dick to them because they clearly are being a dick to you. What I am saying is, if a trader plays his part, how about you recognize that and show him the same respect/care/whatever you call it? You took all of his ore and he role played his part instead of just trying to cruise or cussing at you? Throw him 50% of his cargo/credits back to show you appreciate it. You'll find that traders that have enjoyable encounters with pirates tend not act like idiots when stopped by them.

Not aimed at you directly Veygaar, just musing off your words I am. Problem with the trader/miner and pirate interaction is that for the most part most players on both sides are greedy. Most won't admit that however.
