Cloaking devices

With many cloaking devices floating around on various ships, people have started to RP the "impossible to create" devices from SP as something well known to the average rowdy freelancer.

"I noticed his cloaking devices when scanning his juggernaut, and asked him about them. He had a small one for sale. I already knew that, since I left a bid on it. "

" I'm afraid I need to get one built by my own..."

It is important to say that I don't mind such RP. I included the quotes just to show what I'm talking about, with not even the slightest intention to criticise it.

Are cloaking devices public knowledge amongst the space-faring masses of Sirius or not?

Cloaking devices are public knowledge as far as I know. Liberty has been trying to make one, lore wise, for decades... and a lot of people in single player seemed to know that Rheinland had them on most of their ships during the Nomad war.

All right then. However it seems that the current RP in space suggests that the majority of pilots believe in the man-kinds's ability to build and use such devices in a casual manner. It is actually not the kind of disbelief the SP characters tend to show.

Wow, didn't thought, that people actually read my diary.

But you're right. Actually those devices should be seen as 'prototypes', and unpayable. Also, they're illegal in most houses I presume.

They're supposed to be rare, but that doesn't mean most people won't know about them. I mean, we know about cloaking devices now, so of course they'll know about them in the future. Whether or not they're feasible is the clincher.

Judging by ingame interactions everyone knows them, and lots of vessels are already using them, it was cool the first days when only a few ships had them but now there are even pirates in liners using them, so its kind of normal.

[color=#FFFFFF]Aha, and that's why 18 years ago high ranking LSF officer was baffled by the prospect of ships cloaking let alone the Osiris-class designed with the sole purpose to be stealthy

Arent the Cloaks Nomad, and a TOP SECRET Liberty project called the Osiris? Of cource nowdays, everyone can use a cloak and an Osiris for less than 400 mil(1-2 hours of mine runs) so the game logic died a long time ago.

Some of my Characters dont know of existing of Cloaks, so when I see them they like ''WHOOAA!!! CLOAKS!!! CEWL!!!''
Too many people using ooRP knowlege within RP or simply metagaming or even powergaming...
