Quote:[11:26:50] Guy I: Anyone else just realize this whole conflict with Kusari might be over in 4.86 just like that
[12:00:40] Guy II: yea, you're right
[12:01:23] Chevalier (Tomas): This is why I hate the whole disco. History belongs not to the players, but to the one person. It's like communism.
[12:01:24] Guy III: So, all this is a waste of inRP time?
[12:01:37] Guy III: [12:01] Chevalier (Tomas):

I already mentioned that in some thread too Q_Q
[12:01:57] Guy III: There the plot is actively done by the players
[12:01:57] Guy II: I guess we can do nothing but enjoy ourselves along the ride..
[12:02:17] Guy III: [12:01] Guy II:
<<< I guess we can do nothing but enjoy ourselves along the ride..
It's like a rollercoaster: exciting but along a preset track
[12:02:35] Chevalier (Tomas): And after the long use, it gets bored.
[12:02:47] Guy III: Exactly.
[12:08:50] Guy II: that's when a player leaves disco, have happened before many times, will happen again, many times
I began to realize, that disco ain't so fun as it should be...
BIG edit: Most of the people are thinking about positive things about disco right now, since it's our current server birthday, however I think we should look at the biggest problems as well, to make sure that in further years they'll be solved.
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

Chev, how exactly is it communism? I'm serious. That was one stupid comparison. Communism=/=Dictatorship.
That said, I don't really see the problem. You are playing the mod made by the development team, for free. Isn't that good? You play someone else's work free of charge! You say it like they force you to do something. Instead you are privileged to play with this mod.
storylines made by the players ARE taken into consideration...
... however - not every playermade conflict "makes sense" ... so there are quite some pre-requisites that HAVE to be fulfilled for a conflict to make it into the lore:
- it has to be a multilateral decision - not ONE faction can "do cause they can" - as they please...
- it has to make sense. - you cannot ally factions or even make a pact of non aggression just like that. it has to be a long and complex history that "evolves" (meaning, - yes, you can join factions... but it has to be a long process - think in months rather than days )
- there must be more about it than just "cause it brings activity" or "cause some players enjoy the attention and the pvp so much"
problems of many players:
- many players are impatient AND non-consequencial ... that means that they want an idea to happen NOW - they don t want to wait - no matter what it takes, it has to be done now.... most of the times by uni-lateral arrangements ... and when it evolves into something not everyone enjoys - these very players say "deal with it... i am having fun, why don t you have?!"
- many players do not like consequences. - they have a good idea and do not think of the greater consequences of what they really try to do. - they live in their small scale little RP enviroment... and get totally lost when everything around them tumbles down.... at which point they exclaim "it wasn t me... i never wanted that" or "you re all unfair for shooting me or even filing RP reports on me"
in the past ... only VERY few factions / players had the foresight to think of a wholesome picture - think beyond their own little world.
even now it is extremely difficult for most factions to even think and act multilateral ( i imagine that for most this term is totally foreign )
so unless players show that they don t only take the responsibility and empathy to play WITH their fellow players and not competitivly against them - and as long as they are not prepared to really take the consequences of their actions. - major storyline twists are rather done by rather impartial people discussed in a smaller scale and a more civil tone.
and then there is still the mod creator, who wants to make a storyline based on his vision... which often does not contradict medium scale player storylines though.
edit: the above might sound a bit harsh ... but looking at the last year retrospectivly .... we had MAJOR crap ( in terms of uni-lateral RP, powerplay and sometimes beyond the grey area of "acceptable" roleplay ) going on by (official) players in the second half and not too much global RP in the first half. [we also had a lot of good stuff going on, no doubt - probably more than bad stuff.... but you all know how it is... one bad egg can ruins the many]

Yup. Very well said. Apperantly not for all people this is obviuos.
Jinx sure said it all, i actually like how it is set... it means that factions kinda have a small restart at the start of the mod, which i think is needed and well helpful in my eyes...
There was a complaint because your signature violated forum rule 1. Specifically:

sometimes its indeed sad how thing happen around here in disco,
As example, the Mollys are one of the longest developing player faction
as I started as a molly ( 3 years ago ) just after the Union of Gold,
when the molly republic was formed out of the old members of UoG,
they started to develop the molly rp somewhat better, later on we
continued the road-map to what the Mollys are now.
I do not know how long the UoG were around, but for the last 3,5 years the mollys have been evolved and developed better then 3 years ago.
note: we aren't done yet;)
so. discovery is in my opinion not boring, just on a plain side of the coin at moment.

Could you give some examples? Of the good and bad? So that people have a clearer idea what you mean.
Also how about if the storywriters came up with the ongoing story that "makes sense" but it was up to player actions to determine which fork it would take, e.g. the storywriters came up with the bret/kusari war, but it could be up to ingame play - amount of kills by baf/knf results of events, ect. - to determine who gained a victory with the start of each new update?
