I'm just not getting it, sorry.

"as good as" = in what aspect? In precision? In convenience? In health?

"is fighting between fighters, bombers & GBS"

Well, that clarifies things. I suppose if you got REALLY used to aiming with your touchpad on the right hand while using evasion/selection controls on your left hand, you might be able to shoot something. But seriously the mouse buttons aren't meant to sustain the regular abuse of a gamer. I replaced my touchpad a few months ago, and already the left mouse button isn't functioning properly... that's just from regular use. Get a mouse. They are easier to replace if something goes wrong.

Also, I hear trackballs are better for your wrist than a mouse, but it would take a while to get used to for aiming.

I do have to use it quite a lot. Needs some practice, but you can get used to it. It works, but dont expect your aiming to be as good as playing with a mouse though. Means its fine if you just want to do some trade runs or keyboard-warrioring, but as soon as it comes to fighting you wont have the best chances.

EDIT: Just try it out yourself:P

Yeah I usually use my mousepad when I'm trading with my GMG Whale, since that thing doesn't have any effective firepower anyway. (Unless you're dusty lens )

I use a trackball. Its really good. Useing thumb ones (the ball is rolled by the thumb, just to clarify:crazy:) allow a greater range of movement. You,dont have to keep adjusting tge mouse location.

I've been forced to use my laptop touch-pad a few times. It's awful, nowhere near as good as using a mouse.

Jeremy: Sounds interesting, may try that out.

Funny thing on my laptop is, when I type I can't use the touch for 0,2 seconds.

Which means I can't steer that well.

A 'normal' mouse is just the best option to play Freelancer in my opinion.

There's probably an option to disable this in the settings for the touchpad.

No, get a normal mouse preferably one with good laser, different dps in order to fit your style and more buttons to use different weapons per mouse button click. I recommend Roccat or Razer or if you dont want to invest so much in mouse then OCZ- they are also good but not as previous 2.
