So I (well, my dad) have a Windows Vista. Its suppose to be.....new. Ive played Disco on it for about 2 years and NEVER had a problem with ping/loss/lag etc. Just last week I noticed my ping skyrocketing and loss going up to 20%. I thought it was applications running in the background but none appeared. I restarted the computer, uninstalled games, dumped internet cache and other novice actions but none are having an effect. I would like to play FL and actually be able to fight without dying by something that wasnt on my screen. PLEASE HELP

P.S.: Only WORTHWHILE answers please. "Get a new computer", "Get a new router", and other useless information is not needed. Those things are in the process but there is not much a kid of my age can do, job wise, in America's "Oh-so-wonderful" economy.

Happening to me too.

Blame the server?

Cannon, any clue?

I truly believe it is not the server. I have been on when others suffered "server-caused" issues, and this doesnt seem to fit thier descriptions. Also, I observed that my loss and lag only skyrocket when Players are around. 1 makes it bad, anymore just makes playing unbearable. My ping, loss, lag, etc. are always, just recently, high. But players cause a huge leap in said areas. I have checked all other "online/Multiplayer" Games, that I own, and none are exibiting anything that relates to what I have seen.

Ah. When other players are around, FL sends much more data about ship positions and directions. If your link is iffy, you may have problems only when near other players because of this.

It isn't only you having this problem. I've been having lag and loss lately, which I've never had at all for the past two years...

I never had this much ping/loss/lag/fluct the whole time I've been on Disco : D
Sometimes it is just 1400/53/33/50 and then sometimes I cant even log in server due to 18k ping D:

Well...

Seems like I'm not the only person getting lag at odd times.

How many of you people above me have tried this thingummy out?

How to use WinMTR --> http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=93689

Occasionally a router, node or whatever along the route to the server is acting up and that can cause lag.

This little proggy (thread created by Cannon btw) will show you if that is case.

Exactly how to read it I'm not sure of, but you can see where the numbers don't add up as it were.

SO I tried it, and I see many numbers. It says "Loss is 0". I think its lying.

-Edit- Also, when I select the Disco Server and then my character, the "This action has taken longer than expected, press esc the exit" thing comes up. Ive observed that it can come up, up to 3 times. Once: My ping and everything else is fine. Twice: Everything is WACK. Thrice: I cant play. At all. I get "twos and threes" MUCH more often than "ones". Ive sort of expiremented with it to. Usually only get "ones" once a day. Problem is, I have to log out multiple times for RL matters. Its just rather annoying. (anyone interpret that "graph"?)

Use the 'code' when posting these things, it makes it nice and neat and easy to read.

I agree, I reckon the darn thing is lying too. No Loss? You gotta be kidding me.
I reckon everyone gets some sort of loss, except if they are virtually living on top of the server and even then I reckon there would be some.

As for the 'this action thing', yeah I get that too, I virtually expect it, I haven't had a game where it HASN'T come up when I first log onto the server.
Good ping you have there though, better than mine by a long shot.
