Does anyone here employ a dual or even triple monitor system? I'm thinking about getting my smaller monitor in with my main one for my music purposes while I play games. e.g. changing tracks during FL

My two monitors are thus:
Main is 1920 x 1080 with a secondary 1080 x 786 if I remember right.

I got a GeForce GTX 470.

So aye, anyone else do this?

ya hai. got a 22" and my old 19" - 1680x1050 and 1280x1024

so they work out together. Its ok to use two different screen if you're 'only' dealing with music but I reommend not to use it for visual arts as you will never ever find two screens that will look/show exactly the same picture. This only works out if you buy the exact same ones.

You may notice what I'm talking about once you plugged your old one in. In any case, I can only recommend it. more space always comes in handy.

If you want to use features like playing via 2 monitors, it won't work since you need two identical screens, or atleast identical refresh rate + resolution, and a GPU that supports it, a GTX470 would, but it wouldn't be powerful enough to play games on a high resolution like that + high details leave alone AA.

Aye, I only intend my secondary monitor to play music/skype as I play games, makes things easier. I'm not going to use it for gaming for the reasons said above.

Main for gaming, secondary for music/comms.

Works. Reminds me I still have an old 20" lying around too.

Give it a smash! I need to find a new power cable for my old monitor tomorrow... never leave tech in parents hands... they lose things...

I've been using two monitors mostly for my work in 3D, I like the extra work space it gives me. It's also useful to have while playing games, but I've found that Freelancer dispproves of my second monitor.

If I have any windows open in my second monitor (whether they're minimized or not) Freelancer will refuse to open and will just minimize every time I try.

It doesn't bother me too much though since I started using the Steam Overlay in-game so I can still communicate.

I find that using a second monitor is GREAT if you have a laptop. However, I find that the virtual Desktop function in Mint/Ubuntu, tiling window managers in Arch and Aero Snap in windows 7 give me enough flexibility, all from the keyboard, to make it that I don't NEED a second monitor, so it just a useful addon from time to time. Plus, most of the time I'm developing/writing code I'm using Vim in a terminal only situation (saves from distractions, battery life increases dramatically (think 12 hours from a 3 hour estimated battery), and I've yet to find a good IDE for EVERYTHING that I do, though Geany's quite close).

NB: As to what I'm developing, that's a secret, as I don't want people to get their hopes up. May be calling on people to beta test when done, but that's a long, long while off. :P

You will never go in to space.
FACT: Space does not exist.
Spheres that insist on going into space are inferior to ones that don't.

I've been using dual monitors for a while, and it's worked fine. Using an Asus 1680 x 1050 widescreen for my primary ( because its colors are much more vivid for some reason ) and an Acer 1920 x 1080 for my secondary. Never had any problems. For this reason, I have Skype in the alt monitor as well as other things. I also use a HDMI cable to hook up my Xbox 360 to my primary monitor. That way I can chat on Skype, and play Black Ops / Reach / Battlefield and whatnot on the primary. So all in all, a dual screen setup is a very nice thing to have.

Dell 3008WPF (WFP?) 2560*1600 + Dell S2309W 1920*1080.

The setup of course makes my tiny little 5570 cry the moment I try to
start any games or anything slightly graphically demanding at any
resolution above 1920*1080, but it's still damn good for web/skype/music
whatever on the right screen and everything else on the 3008. Makes for
quite a lot of screen real estate, though - when I cold boot my machine I
have difficulties figuring out what to even fill them with. 2560*1600 is a
lot. Luxury problems, man.:P
