XD Finally, I can get back at those guys that threatened to kill my congress salvager without any risk to myself.
Edit:
Errm... could we have some green text here deciding one way or another? I usually make a habit of docking at the closest base when xenos come by and start demanding things before they've even fired any shots. I'd rather not break the rules by calling in heavy firepower and undocking to watch as they die :/
No despite what the forum mod thar highlighted himself saying I would have to tell you to stick with the rules definition of an attack.
The rules specify the destruction of a trade vessel cannot be done without issuing a demand IE a pirate can put you down to one hull before saying the actual demand... but theres nothing in there thats stares the rp.. demand.. or anything other then 50% shield loss is indicating an attack of any kind.
So play within those rules. Tried to pirate someone? Rp? issue a demand? and most importantly DID YOU GET THIER SHIELDS past 50%?
Athenian has said it in the past that if a pirate makes a demand and starts shooting at you and you run away; regardless of if he gets your shields below 50% you are engaged and thus if you dock and then un dock/switch characters and start shooting the pirate you will be sanctioned. People have been sanctioned for it before.
Claiming that because a pirate didn't get your shields below 50% and thus he didn't engage you isn't an excuse for re-engaging after you've docked. I'll poke Athenian in this direction, but for christ sakes, they have more important things to do rather than answer every little rule question that pops up, especially when other veteran players can answer them.

Yes, it is against the rules. A pirating demand counts as an engagement, as established by a plethora of sanctions resulting from it.
...
Okay, Dab, you honestly want to tell here that if a pirate makes a demand, but doesn't deal any damage to his target in any way, and the target docks... it is against the rules that the docked player may switch to another ship to engage the pirate?
You won't be sanctioned if the pirate was making a demand from half way across the system. If he stops you, makes his demand and then you run, while he is shooting at you; you have been engaged regardless of if he takes your shields below 50%. As he made his hostile intentions known.

That sure is covered by the rules.
That is not what Dab stated. Dab answered to Reptile. Read the two quotes in my first reply here. Or look for yourself in Dabs post above that.

Well as you can see from my sanction, you will be. The molly never even got close to me, the closest being 3ks, and I dont think it even made a demand, but I still got sanctioned.
