"Yes Doctor."
[color=#FFFFFF]He rushed out of the control room and back down to the walkway onto the XR-1. Men were streaming out of the ship, some hurt, some dazed as confused. It was panic and beldum on board the Hammer.
"Doctor, I'm aboard. Heading to main engineering."
[color=#FFFFFF]He ran now, pushing past the tide of men desperate to get off the ship. He reached the door of Main Engineering, but it was sealed.
"The overrides on. Unlock it!"
[color=#FFFFFF]There was a click and he door opened. He found the console he was looking for and began flooding the critical systems in coolant. Satisfied that there was going to be no repeat of what happened to the XR-2. He went back on to the TAC-COM. Doc - What in all that is sacred just happened!?
Xiaobei looked up from his situation table, where he was examining the entire ship, deck by deck, system by system.
"Power exceeding capacity. These ships produce a concentrated Zero-point energy... they tap into the very building blocks of the universe themselves... and when you powerup the main gun, it must be fired... The idiot over there probably tried to abort the firing sequence, thinking it's as simple as flicking a switch."
Xiaobei accepted the cup of tea he was handed, sipping it blissfully as he sat in the Captain's chair and put his feet up.
"I don't know precisely what caused the failure, but right now I suggest we run through everything, and enact safety procedures just in case."
A very angry and slightly injured Rhade burst into the room and slammed his fists into the situation table.
"What the HELL just happened to my god damn Flagship!" Rhade, clearly furious continued.
"I come to inspect it and what the hell happens? It blows up, right in front of me. So, I want to know exactly what just happened and who to execute for being the biggest frackin' moron this side of Sirius."
XiaoBei opened his mouth, the realized who he was talking to...
"err, right... so simple words..." XiaoBei rolled the tea around his tounge before answering. "Think of a balloon, you blow it up too much... no wait that's not right... ummm, you know what you shake a can of beer, and you open it, you can't close it again, even though... wait no... ok He pushed the big red button marked "Don't touch Dumbass!""
[color=#FFFFFF]It pained him to turn the lights out on such a beautiful ship. All the hopes and dreams for the Coalition were hanging in the balance. They could not lose the XR-1. Ling was frantic, these ships - flag bearers for the Coalition were to stand up against every foe that Sirius could throw at them. Instead, they were exploding before they were even finished.
"Doctor, send over some damage control teams. We'll get the XR-1 secured faster over here."
[color=#FFFFFF]He turned to leave the Engineering deck. Today was a setback. It was how one could recover from such a setback that showed the true strength. He remembered something his uncle had told him.
"Failure is merely a chance to become stronger from your mistake, if it doesn't kill you."
[color=#FFFFFF]He was still alive at least. He was somewhat glad that the engineers on the XR-1 had been slower than their counterparts. He remembered Rhade, hopefully he wasn't too pissed at this point.

"Reports are still sketchy at best but it appears the ship was not completely destroyed but was jumped to another location."
[color=#FFFFFF]The new revelations reverberated around the table. The emergency session which was convened for today was not going well. The loss of the XR-2 was a hammer blow to the Coalition's new shipbuilding campaign. The driveyards were already delayed with the new, and old, Trotsky class preparations. The XKR project had been delayed, and now Project Red Letter Day stood in ruins. The Deputy Premier nodded to both Commandant Ling and Colonel Rhade who were standing behind the members around the table. The Deputy Premier was feeling more confident and calm than he was the previous day. Especially when he heard Doctor XiaoBei's "theory".
"I shall introduce Doctor XiaoBei shortly, who can explain things a little better. In the meantime, as overseer of this project. I urge you all not to throw in the towel. We have fought from weakened positions and setbacks before. This is no different. We must accelerate plans for the XR-3. Commandant, has the XR-1 been secured?"
[color=#FFFF00]"Dui. We have discovered that the problem revolved around...." "XiaoBei will explain Commandant. I asked if the XR-1 was secure. Now has it been significantly delayed or not?" "I would say so. Preliminary reports put us back at least 2 weeks, perhaps more. The shields saved...." ".. you from losing both our flagships and your pride Commandant! How could you allow such an error to happen?!" "The technician at fault as already been summarily executed."
Ling nodded at Rhade. He could understand why his uncle was seething with rage, and understood that as overseer - He had much to lose.
[color=#66FFFF]"Good. Find those at fault for the errors and shoot them in full view of the other scientists. Now.. Questions before XiaoBei's... "theory"
"Will my new toy, and I will be getting a new toy, be better than the Hammer? Commandant Ling is waving around his manhood about how the Hammer will be the best."
Ling coughed nervously.
"The XR-3 better be self-sufficient, capable of supporting a small fleet by itself. I want Fighter, and Storm Repair and Construction Bays. Biodome's for food, Ore processing plants."
Rhade thought about what else.
"A Sauna, Definitely a sauna. Oh, and a forward gun that doesn't fracking teleport my ship and blow up half of the station it's docked at!"
