Without CD's they would still act as cruisers.

Currently if there's a cruiser and a fighter/bomber/freighter/gunboat, who do you think keeps the Battleships CD'd and who stays out of their range firing pulses and light mortars?

Why is trading/mining encouraged to be done in groups, while pirating is not?

Because trading and mining requires less skill and brings up to 5-7 times more credit income.

Opinions. Not facts. Regular piracy takes no more skill than trading or mining. The only time skill comes into play in piracy is for those who make more pirating than a trader would make. Yarr. Ivan. Etc Etc.

If mining and trading is to be done as a group effort, piracy should also be a group effort.

If done correctly then pirating in group is not optional.

Perhaps you're doing it wrong? I know that if a group of pirates using a mix of transports and snubs catches a trade convoy or mining operation they can make out like bandits by taking cargo. Or even placing demands on each member of the victim group.

If you try to argue the point, I'll merely point out that Ivan made a killing pirating and he didn't run his operation fully solo. I hauled a good deal of cargo for him. I made a killing doing that.

What I meant to say is that a competent bunch of miners/traders can leave a solo-pirate with no choice but to seek help or he won't make any money.

It's up to traders/miners to take initiative and force pirates to team up.

Cruiser. Even if there's fighter/bomber/gunboat.

Fighters may have a MR, Bombers might have dual novas or SNAC+Nova, and gunboats I dont see too often in large fleet fights (except for Rorry's raids into Gamma).

Cruiser is a primary "rapid reaction" vessel on the battlefield, that you can always rely on, and your workhorse in general. Battleships serve as a heavy hitters/heavy support role.

Don't remove a CD just because transport vs cruiser balance does not exist. Better forbid them to shoot transports again.
