You know, I like the idea, but I think the only way to do it would be with a "share" commodity that is managed with some commands by the company owner.
(Random spur of the moment thought here) You could just send the shareholder a file over skype containing a unique code, then store everyone of these codes in a document only accesible by the DHC themselves and in this document you could write who you sold the share to, meaning that you could athenticate wether it is a real share or a falsified one. You would also be able to know how many you sold to that person or on that code which further prevents duplication of the shares. Good idea? Not good idea? You decide.

Forcing people to use forums to substantiate any claim is already a travesty.
Forcing people to use Skype to gain a foothold in investing is just outright nefarious.
Besides, we can't just have any old noob buying 100 stocks. Once skype becomes expensive (Which it will due to new ownership) this plan will suck.
Why can't a noob buy the stocks? If he quits, it's free money for the corporation.
Also: what do you mean, real words?

Everyone knows that the discovery mod comes with a viral form of Skype.

Yes, to compensate for the lack of good comms in-game.
The foundations for any type of stock-market are almost there. We have high-value mineable commodities, but these are nowhere near as valuable as the manpower required to acquire them.
It is the real-time value of these Sirius Credits that makes them valuable as a stock. Time is something of value to everyone.
There is an element missing though, something that makes it harder to pin a firm value on the assets the value of any stock to be traded.
Storage. There are few ways of stockpiling commodities. Barges give you a limited economy, looks impressive on the forums, but not enough to want to make me buy shares.
Next version we might be able to store more serious amounts of commodities. A Barge maybe you could pull together about 6 shareholders.
Up the ante? See if you can buy a dozen? Who would be so bold as to attempt the herculean logistical challenge? Many would say it is impossible!
Or make it even easier, and hire a number of them. lease them out as storage space.
How much is Gold Ore worth these days?
This entire storage thing is a foundation for my other idea, house currencies. It's difficult to move barges around and you could just use all that stockpiled "cash" in form of commodities as a "cover", base for the value of a certain house currency.
