Summary -

Space is dangerous. Very dangerous. Especially if you are a trader flying a huge, nearly unarmed ship with thousands of tons of valuable goods. Extremely dangerous if there are individuals who make a living by pirating these ships.

Luckily, there is PriSec.

In 816 AS, Ferus Olin and David Taylor, two fairly poor freelancers, chose to pool their very limited funds and open a small, two-man business on Planet Manhattan, offering their service to anyone who wanted an escort through New York. The work was boring and the pay was low. But after two years, they had gathered enough funds to increase their "territory."

And so they founded PriSec.

I'd recommend Raven's Talon as civilian ship with biggest powerplant which will help in damaging hostiles.
