I was on my blood dragon today and saw a Trader coming from Sigma-13 system to Chugoku via the jumphole. I tried pirating him for 2 million and the trader refused to pay. He then tried running back to Sigma-13, I followed him and then he jumped back to Chugoku again. Then he kept jumping between the two systems Chugoku to Sigma-13 for at least a whole hour (Yes, I wasn't gonna let this jerk go away). Finally with the help of some other people we managed to kill him exactly before he jumped to the other system (which made him invulnerable due to the docking scene).

So now I wonder, if this "jumping back and forth between two systems repeatedly over 30+ times" is sanctionable?

If not, I would recommend some kind of rule because this really is simply put, Lame.

That a person is willing to do this for a whole hour rather than pay me 2 million is beyond me. Wasting one hour that he could easily earn 50 million.

Yes.
Very much so....
Can't remember the exact rule, but jump spam is often heavily punished.
Please report him.

the only rule that is (/maybe ) violated is the rule to stick to roleplay.

jumping back and forth is no problem in terms of exploiting a game mechanic or violating a direct rule - however jumping back and forth for 1 hour is somewhat silly - as a pirate, i d declare the trader to be mental and leave him be ( ignore him ).

in terms of roleplay - a large ship ( larger than a fighter ) is at a great risk to use a jumphole without a gate contruction. - a captain "should" try to avoid such risks if possible - a trader especially should rather use the gates ( frankfurt ).

so, NO - it is not against a direct rule ( from what i remember ) to jump back and forth. - it is ooRP to do so - but ooRP is hard to prove cause its very much down to interpretation.

Well I have another question, to prove really someone do this (If it is sanctionable). How would you do it? Take screenshots? Or Fraps it?

I can't fraps it because when the file saves more than 5 minutes its 1GB+, which is very big...

Annoying certainly, the act of a desperate man definitely, a fierce demonstration of defiance possibly. Sanctionable? I don't think so. Kinda reminds me of the subway scene in the French Connection. Lame? Pot? Kettle? Black? You were the one who chased him for that hour.

//jumpspamming? jumpwhoring? what's the term for this?

the best prove is a detailed description of what happened. you won t be able to capture it - unless you like large mpeg files and hours long uploads. - but your BEST bet is to simply talk to the culprit .... ask him if THAT is his idea of roleplay...

I dont think it's sanctionable, hell i've done it more than once trying to get away from someone (though never on a trader character).

Usually I dont keep it up for that long though... I jump through, then immediately jump back and hit cruise engines. By the time they get back into the first system i'm out of disruptor range.

I've seen multiple sanctions on actions like that, so I seriously believe that yes, it is sanctionable.

Gotta say man I was bored after about 5 mins, so I admire your sticking power. But yeh, you can sanction that pretty hard.

Maybe it was my own stupidity to keep chasing him back and forth...

Edit: I just can't imagine that done to NovaPG who one of their current goals is to make Chugoku a "secret" system again. Imagine if all the traders did that to them and they should simply ignore them? Then they can stroll by freely...
