Cloaks continuity?

Am I the first one to notice this?

According to SP, no one could get an operating cloaking devise, but in starlancer at the beginning of the alliance-coalition war (about 900 years ago) they had working cloaks on fighters.

Does anyone have a explanation for this? Or was it just a slip up at Microsoft?

Coalition had cloaks on almost all fighters, alliance only had it on one. Also a lot of tech could have been lost i mean the ships dont have jumpdrive either. They might not have been able to take all technology with them on file, just the technology needed to survive. e.g. how to grow crops, basic space flight stuff like that.

Actually, coalition only had it on one fighter and torpedo bombers, but that is beside the point.

I can see the possibility of it being lost, after all they have yet to outfit ships with warp drives, but 800 or so years of space travel and they still couldn't do what scientist in sol did in about 100 years of space travel is the thing I find odd, instead they needed alien technologies.

This is just another case of continuity loss. Very common, especially considering Digital Anvil's rather turbulent history (coughcoughMicro$ofthackhack). Nothing to worry about.

Maybe it was banned by all 4 houses? Anything that linked them to thier war filled past? as for the so called Jump Drive it had a similar effect to the Jumpgate effect, i like the idea that Jumpdrive is simply very costly, and that each government only keeps several squadrons outfitted with them. e.g. Liberty's would most likely be based in Zone 21 and flown by the navy elite.

I think they stopped using jumpdrives because they simply became obsolete, a jump would only take you a few clicks away, warp drives on the other hand are much more likely used for this. Heck, by the end of the starlancer campaign you stop using jumpdrives as much.

The war filled past think isn't likely in my mind, because jumpgates look like they operate on the same principle as the old warp gates.

Warp Drives would probably be very costly technology, and the power requirements large. Once the Jumpgate network was built they were more than likely discarded as obsolete. in starlancer you co pilot says "all the way to jupiter in one jump?" It would take at least 15 jumps to get from new york to colarado alone (possibly more) the "legs" on the warpdrive were simply too short. Manhattan -> Pittsburg was about thier range

Warp Gates and Jump gates are for the most part the one and same, exept Jump Gates are alot more powerful. Warpgates would toss a ship out someplace inside the system they had launched from, while a Jump Gtae can lob a ship into a neighboring system. And then you get Dom'Kavosh Hyper Gates wich can get you to the next galaxy.

As for the whole cloaking tthing, I'd say that was a blunder on behalf of Microsoft not Digital Anvil. Microsoft scrapped a whole shed-load of concepts when they brought Digital Anvil out, colaking could possibly have been one of them. Looks like M$'s lack of foresight caused a large continuality error...

What was the point of that statement?

I also wondered this, considering the technological and strategic benefits of Starlancer's technology seem to outweigh what was and still is being used in Freelancer.
