The choice is between a new CPU or another GPU for SLI?

The 650 Ti (non-boost edition) does NOT support SLI. You're gonna need to save up a bit more and buy a pair of SLI-compatible cards -- or sell the 550 Ti and pick up one 660 Ti while you wait for the money for another 660 Ti.

The one I am looking at is SLI ready. I was looking at a 660Ti. I was thinking about using the 550 and the 650 together.

Both are SLI ready

As to say not SLIing....but running a forced GPU as the following. Primary on the 650 and the other two monitors on the 550.

I haven't heard if there's any performance degradation when using two different generation SLI cards, so you might want to check up on that. I'm really more in the know on CrossFireX setups.

Indeed. The thing is if it is SLI able the medium of the two would hold dominion.

I would finally, eventually, replace the 550. If I think about it this way....

660 is about 200 USD if I get one now the time I can get another 660 it'll probably be around 140 USD to buy.

Right now the 650 is 150 USD. By the time I go to buy another 650 it'll be closer to 90 USD. I'm talking in a span of 6 months.

HERE is the better question. Which would be more suitable for Star Citizen? 650 or the 660?

ye SLI / Crossfire isn't all what it's cracked up to be. Not all games support it fully, and you never get access to the full juice of both cards combined. Also micro-stutter and insane power consumption / heat development theoretically stressing other components in the PC.

In general, unless you find an extremely good offer on a SLI card that matches the one you have perfectly, just go for 1 good card, something like the Radeon 79xx series or Geforce 7xx series. Tom's Hardware are always updated on where to get the best "bang for the buck".

If not that, I'd look at an SSD, a 23" Full HD screen (they're cheap at the moment) (scratch that, I just noticed you've got a 3 screen setup) or a PCI-E 3.0 mobo / intel i-series processor as future upgrades (and get a wired internet connection Big Grin).

EDIT: Also I think Star Citizen, if everything they keep saying is going to hold true, is going to require another upgrade anyway when it's out. It's going to be super taxing on any current system.

In general I wont buy anything with this system.
Only SSD, Crossfire and SLI are idiotic way to get your money especially if you are on budget as it seems to be the case. 2 cards just does not give 2x performance so it is a way better to buy one single card.
Buy SSD now and wait for the rest for next year when new GPUs would come out.
I hope that AMD would put some quite nice stuff on the market next year since they won the console war.

Another thing to put under the list of "things Govedo doesn't know but talks about anyways".

Lol my frames...

np I wanna more powah, no matter that my frames would sux lets test how much more "GPU computing power" I get with more cards instead of with one:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cros...865-3.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cros...71-10.html

1 Single 570 in test- 8803 points
2 570s in test-14036 points- it means that you pay 200% but you get 159% power instead of 200%
3 570s in test- 16753 you pay 300% and get 190% power instead of 300%.
Also does not forget that more GPUs make your power-bill quite huge.

Nuff said with line line like my previous post both SLI and CrossfireX are marketing tools - well presented shit so they can make more money from rich kids and PC enthusiasts that care more for their benching then the real usefulness..
As result 1 single high end GPU makes a way more sense economically and cost-efficient wise, if we add the micro-shuttering disadvantage on both SLI/Crossfire well then multiple GPUs are pretty useless.

Zig is well settled for the moment- he just need to buy 128 or 256 GB SSD and wait for AMD new cards that would come out just a bit before SC. No point to buy GPU now since later he would get 30% more performance for the same money- let say he would buy 7970s equal power for the price of 7870 just before the game is realised:
http://videocardz.com/45324/possible-spe...hawaii-gpu
According to the rumours the high end of the new series would be around 25% faster then the high end now that automatically brings the mainstream card performance on the current high end model. It would totally blow off any SLI that you can afford now and it would cost around 220-240€ on realise and 190-210 € a bit later.

Then you can test the SC and if it runs okish you does not need to update the CPU and Mobo, if it runs bad then you can update them too. No point to buy hardware now since the stuff t that would come out in the moment of usage/need would preform better for the same money.

Kazinsal don't post about stuff that you have little to no idea. It is ok in flood but bad thing if one burns his money because of your incompetent advice.

Benchmark tools are useless. They don't represent real load.
