It depends on the generation of processor. i7 is always the best but if you're looking to game, using an i5 can't do you any harm. it's better to invest the money you might save into a better graphics processor. If you're building a gaming rig, consider AMD, their systems give you better graphics capabilities

On the subject of graphics: What's your price range?

On the subject of Memory: 8 Gigs is fine.

On the subject of HDD: If you want to reduce loading times, a solid state drive acceleration cache might be worth investing in. you only need 40 gigs with one of these. load the games you're using onto it and then take them off when you're done.

Get a graphics card with GDDR5, preferably one of the GTX 700 series, get a i7 core and at least 4 gigs of ram.

That or wait until the new generation of processors are revealed and see how those hold up, they might be cheaper.

gpu>cpu
i7 is overkil for most gaming, if you must get a i5-k series and oc it- save ya about $100
graphics is important, and ssd doesnt do much beyond reduce loading times (by a lot- therefore the premium)
any reasonably priced gpu above $100 has gddr5 ram, this being fast enough for most games the gpu's processing power is once again the bottleneck
as for "which one is the best", a silly question because everything you're asking depends heavily on your price range

All you need to know.

Also about SSD's, you need more than 40 gigs... I got 128 and I am struggling with that. You will want your OS on it so you can boot up fast and at least room for 1 game. Seeing some games take up 20-30 gigs and a Win7 installation taking up about 20, and that you want the applications you use the most on the SSD as well, 40 is not enough.

8GB is plenty.
EDIT: If your budget matters go with an i5, if you are look to spend around 2000 euros then buy an i7.

Only go for 16 GBs or higher if you plan on doing movie/photo/music editing and design.

Some trolls of our IT blocked Star Citizen Cite so I cannot link you but if you check the Hangar mode minimal requirements you would notice the 8 GB ram there set as minimum. The rest is up to you, I like to build feature proof systems not something that I need to change in 1 year, it should be ok at least for 2 years time.
