"In memory of our brothers fallen from grace."

This is the private log of Dane Kinnaird, former Fleet Marshal of the Hellfire Legion prior to the Schism. After that incident, he departed Vespucci with a small cadre of ships crewed by his most loyal comrades. His journey will take him across Sirius in pursuit of a new home, and with a desire to accomplish his life's work - a mysterious project he has kept hidden from even his closest friends.

Time / Date: <missing>
Location: Coronado System, in orbit of Planetoid Jericho

I have trouble sleeping.

The pain in my hip is getting worse. Just when I think I'm comfortable, a muscular twitch or a vibration from the ship's structure sends a jolt of pain down my leg. I am becoming increasingly reliant on painkillers. The Naval surgeons who put my hip back together did a fine job, but my body has taken a beating over the last few years, and the Legion was never overflowing with skilled physicians. I will need to find some kind of long-term treatment soon before it deteriorates any further.

I had hoped that we would have been able to leave Coronado sooner, but a number of issues have imposed further delays. The Gallic Royal Navy, having crushed Bretonian defenses in the Leeds system, is sending scouts and raiding parties into the Magellan system via jump hole. Even if we wanted to swing by Freeport 4 to pick up supplies, we can't, because the Navy has massively escalated its presence in the system. The last time I talked to my contact on the station, he told me that he was getting ready to bail out, so it really is a dead end over there.

To make things worse, during my flight from Vespucci, the Abaddon took a few hits. I thought the technicians had managed to get it under control, but evidently the damage is much more severe than they initially anticipated. Several of the primary power relays that are part of the ship's core framework have been damaged or outright destroyed, so most of the turrets can't operate for sustained periods of time. Without a proper shipyard or some engineers well-versed with the original technology, we're going to be in serious trouble if we have to fight.

At least the engines and shields are working fine... for now. Despite these hindrances, I intend to leave while there's still time. Even though my communique with the Colonial Republic procured this hiding spot in orbit of Jericho, there is always a chance that LSF agents may have infiltrated their ranks, and so we can't afford to be spotted by Colonial military ships. Because of the GRN's looming advance, the CR are gearing up for war again, and I'm not interested in participating in a pointless battle of attrition.

Therefore, I'm sending my Gunboat, the Icebrand, ahead of the Abaddon to scout a safe path to a Molly base in Bretonia. Once there, we may be able to breathe a little more easily and figure out where to go and what to do next.

I need another pill.

It's been slow going, but my miniature flotilla has reached the Inverness system. We had to be extremely cautious during our travel across Cortez and Magellan, due to the intensified Navy patrols.
