Ok its the start of a New Update New guns, new story, new ships, and new systems to explore and map. However there are still old problems lying around that need to be addressed.
Kusari has been dead pretty much since I arrived in January of last year. The rare Samura or Kishiro Transport here and there and maybe the flitting glance of a KSP or KNF zipping by. With the introduction of POB's their activity did go up, but it was little more than putting water in a bucket with holes in the sides. So now at the dawning of a new version of Discovery I feel we should address the things that killed the once great House of Kusari. What events or changes put the proverbial nails in the coffin of Kusari?
Now we can sit here and point fingers all day but identifying an issue is only half the battle.
What can we do the change this? What changes can be put in place to make Kusari come alive again?
This is a Thread for asking questions about why Kusari died and how to Fix it not a place to complain or a "Kusari is dead leave it dead" thread.
> Kusari is no fun to fight. Their small ships do not encourage pvp interaction at all.
> The (overdone) xenophobia and the stereotypical "gaijin!" roleplay also sucks in my personal opinion
> I personally remember the bad choices Kusari made during the Hogosha-indie GB idiocy and how Kusari leadership players treated people/players in it irply and oorply.
> It also doesn't help Kusari to not have a war enemy. Fleet battles like Bretonia-Gallia or Liberty-Rheinland add something to Houses.
> I think many did not like that Kusari rolled over so quickly after the Gallic invasion. It was badly covered by rp, suddenly they had surrendered and nothing had happened. That was what I personally found really weird. Also, this had no repercussions.
> the new government remained very very pale. The former Emperor may have been an idiot irply, but he was at least visible.
Kusari was fun during our Kusari vs Bretonia vs Gallia battle......

What is problem? Make Kusari/Liberty war. since Kusari loves Gallics, its not a problem to do.
Rheinland could suffer from increased RHA/Corsair brawls on borders

The problem is that Disco has not enogh active players for this . I mean Kusari/Liberty and Bretonia/Gallia wars at the same time .
What is needed is some newer players to flesh out the lawful (the KNF, Samura, Kishiro and Hogosha players, most of which were in at least two of these), unlawful and now the Exile/FA civil revolt side.
Previously (from my interpretation, it was mostly before my time) there was a large ]bd[ side but there was... not a lot of ooRP liking for each other and that fell apart. There was also a fair bit of KSP activity which both didn't last long and also meant a lot of their players left afterwards.
There have been Exiles groups in the past, but they have mostly been led by the KNF and KSP people who now are either inactive, completely gone from Disco or busy with other areas entirely. Or Zelot.
Two sides sharing a lot of members is good for ooRP relations but can lead to activity problems for actually getting people in-game against each other. I face this problem with most of the more skilled PvP players in CR| also being in CL} and preferring to log on that side. Thankfully I have a lot of other players in CR| for activity but not always for a balanced fight.

Strictly speaking, Discovery doesn't have the activity to support any real wars. It's all just one or two skirmishes a day and nothing else. People log in, fight, then switch characters. At least that's what I've been seeing with gallia and bretonia. I could see the same thing with Liberty. As far as I understand it, Liberty isn't at war with Rheinland anymore, so they have nothing to do. Which would explain why I'm always seeing a bunch of LNS sitting in New York. Letting them and the Kusari go at it might be a good change. And then you could further this by allowing Kusari to work alongside Gallia, and Liberty to work alongside Bretonia so there's some overlap. If there's a Kusari player on he can join the Gallics on their raids, and vice versa.
The other day this actually happened, there were two Kusari battleships participating in a fight and I thought that was really neat. So having Kusari join the war on the Gallic's side and having a ZOI over Liberty space would give a lot of incentive to play Kusari. Or at least, some incentive. I doubt it's enough to make the faction as populated as bretonia or liberty, but it'd at least give the people who do join something to do.
Liberty remains at war with Rheinland, so player-wise this can still be done even if the lore states that the conflict has slowed down. The Navy now diverts towards the west, defending the front opening up in California/Magellan, and stationing further forces alongside the Bretonian Armed Forces to defend New London, Manchester and Newcastle.
Kusari's eyes turn inwards as the Exiles move through Roussillon towards the Taus and Kyushu. While Gallia's main force is split between keeping order in Gallia against their home-grown criminals and those holding the invasion corridor from Orkney to Leeds, a civil war will start concerning the governing of Kusari.
My thoughts are that this could lead to the Emperor taking control of most of the forces (with a 'new Exile' force of the current Republicans) and re-entering the war against Gallia. Alternatively, if the Republicans maintain control but become aware of Libertonian/Bretonian support of the Exiles (assuming this happens) it could be the reason they open a front with Liberty alongside the Gauls in a later version.
Kusari has always been the least active house, because of the more complicated roleplay that you 'just have to like' to play it. Due to that roleplay new players didnt really feel attracted to it and if they did and did a few mistakes they got not taken seriously or even yelled at by the official factions, so that was a lack of innovation which made it boring to play after some time because it was mostly the same whenever you ran into someone.
Thats lasted until the end of .85.
With Gallia taking over Kusari in a, at least in my eyes not even remotely well done, plot most factions just got even more boring. There also was, at least gameplay wise not the slightest change.
The GC suddenly had achieved one of their goals when Samura was out of the government, the bd still had something to fight for, but their Samura goal also had been fulfilled.
The Hogosha had nothing to do that you couldnt do with a usual trader ID and the Farmers didnt have anyone to fight anymore, because less GC and BD bothered to log in.
KNF and KSP didnt really have anything to do either, so those stopped to be active as well.
Thats how I see the things that went wrong in Kusari, and I honestly dont see a real way to fix this mess any time soon to make it more active again.
