Now I know theres been talk in the past about having races, but I've never seen it really take off, now heres what I'm thinking..

It would be kind of like an underground racing ring, which would be highly illegal due to the dangers involved, so Lawfuls would not tolerate it (and would become race obstacles)

Now the Racers would be quasi legal, and the only time the Lawfuls could take action against them is if they see them actively racing.

Types of races

Open Race, a racer shows up and calls out for racers to show up at an undisclosed area to race for prize money.

Invite Race - Racers can invite who they like to join in.

Closed Race, only those in the racer "faction" take place for bragging rights or to determine a leader. (you don;t like the leader, you challenge him to a race, winner is the leader) Anyone can watch of course.

How dangerous will these races be?

Blue race - no weapons, no bumping

Red Race - No weapons but Bump away'

Black Race - Everything goes, you can kill your opponent in any way.

So, a racer shows up and announces "Red Open Race at XXXX time, send private comms for further information, prize money is 1million to the winner"

If you die at anytime you lose the race, that simple.

Who can race? Anyone but Police and Military can race but if you get caught, don't expect to get away with it. Now also make sure your faction has reason to be in the race area. I don't want to see corsairs in Newyork racing, just wait and the race may come to a corsair ZOI eventually! If your character is racing, they are probably either nuts or really desperate for the cash, try to RP that in, this is not a joke, you crash here, you are dead. Just remember if an outcast shows up to a race and a corsair is there, they would likely kill each other on the starting line.

The race course

- The trade lanes and gates... Generally systems with loops will be chosen, like New Berlin, New London, Tokyo, New York.. etc... We can go to the less populated systems, and maybe populate them a bit and give the law there something to do.

-Around planets, Suns.. anything really, as long as it is dangerous.

-The legal race courses in Dublin/conneticut

-Some races may take place in only one system others may span a sector, it will be your duty to plot the most efficient course.

Ship restrictions - No freighters, transports or capships... anything else goes. Just make sure it fits your RP, LFs or low level ships are suggested, variety is key!

Weapon restrictions - Depends on your faction, you have to make it match your character...

Equipment - All stock items that everyone can get. No cheetahs and no aftermarket parts (no modding, you mod you get banned.. simple as that)

ID/Tag? - I'd suggest merc or freelancer ID may be best, but Faction IDs will work too. Just make sure your character has a reason to want to risk his/her neck racing.

I'd also like to set up a system to challenge others to a race (Example, in illegal street racing, you could flash your headlights at another car to challenge them) Maybe spamming CMs near them would work for that...

I think it could make things interested for all parties involved. Police would have something more to do then the standard pirate fighting and snuggler chasing... Pirates could also show up and break up the party, traders? you risk getting bashed into a planet or docking ring by crazy pilots racing by...

It wouldn't be so much a faction, as a loosely organized group of individuals. So is anyone interested in something like this? I know some people have been wanting some sort of racing going on, and this could be it.

Any thoughts/ideas? I do have a plan already, I have a smuggler who is addicted to cardamine and will need to race to keep up her addiction, so there's the desperation, and maybe also a bit crazy too..

I for one am a NFS and any street racing game fan.

My vote is YES

It would make jobs for the LN more intersting. Good concept mate.

Most probably, ships that would be suggested are the Arrow, Scimitar, Slimpstream, and really all LFs or Interceptors.

This would be very interesting. A definite yes from me.

Yeah, those ship choices would be key, maybe the best, but I'd love to see variety an not just all arrows...

Its like you drive a mustang, do you really want to only race mustangs? Or do you want to go up against and beat a couple Cuda's?

Also, how about small groups, just representing themselves. Would be boring if they're all indies. So, think of any racing group you wanna make.

It doesn't have to be official or whatever. Just a group of friends interested in racing.

Also, have you come up with a good solid way of racing? Since trade lane racing might be a tad repetitive.

I also have an idea for another racing type, that will surely be branded as illegal.

Racing through Police or Military Guard systems.

Much more dangerous, will test your flying skills, and all that.

For example, in Virginia, we all wait at the Virginia hole in Texas. That's like where all the racers group up. At the go signal, they all jump, and the first person to jump to Cali wins. Might be interesting.

As for a group, [LSR] would be nice for Liberty Space Racers.

Of course, the police or navy can't arrest them for being in the club, since it's not illegal, but, only if they are caught.

I'll make a full list of proposed racing groups. Might import some ideas.

[LSR] - Liberty Space Racers
[SRT] - Sirius Racing Thugs
[SRS] - Sirius Racing Syndicate
[EVO] - Evolution Racers
[IR] - Independant Racers

Feel free to add more ideas.

What about race gangs, example being Rogues in New York who race for the money?

What about bookies or refs stationed periodically across the course to ensure that no one cheats? I really would love to see this work so I'm shooting out everything that comes to mind:)

EDIT: Darn, missed Vincent's comment about groups.

allow the racers to equip mosquito cruise disruptors, no other weapons, and make them have no shields or armor upgrades equipped :D

EDIT:

the minefield maze in connecticut is good for racing... adds a lot of danger to the mix. You go through on cruise speed and while racing you can try to bump your opponents into the mines... even seeing where you're supposed to go is tough with all the mines clouding your vision.
