I know it's supposed to be difficult to get, but this is just awful. One in a random wreck of Omicron Minor? Let me explain what this actually means...

There are hundreds of wrecks in Omicron Minor. Edit: Nevermind, I didn't know they were only on Named wrecks. Still, that's pretty boring, and I think what I propose below would be a lot more fun.

Your scanners can't see them unless you're right next to them, so you have to stop your ship and open your navmap for each and every wreck.

The wrecks are objects, so you cannot set a queue of waypoints from one wreck to the next, your only option is "set best path" which places a single waypoint on one wreck, and cannot be stacked, making it impossible to set a path for yourself so that you don't have to open your navmap after every wreck.

The wrecks regenerate quickly, so there is no telling which wrecks you've actually hit before as you attempt to reach all of them.

The wrecks are mostly spaced out so that they are, on the map, an infinite cluster, but in space, 2-4k away from each other, just enough to where thrusting takes a while and cruising also takes a while, barely being worth turning the engines on for it.

A person could spend hours upon hours, horribly boring and frustrating hours, and still not be sure they've hit every wreck in the system, and even if they have, the DEFILER might not even be there anymore.

Please, guys... This is a GAME!! It's supposed to be fun. I already went there and tried hunting for it. I wouldn't do that again even if you paid me $10/hour. I hate it that much, it is just so boring and frustrating.

Please... Change the way defilers are obtained to something a bit less awful. This is a game, after all, it is supposed to be fun. Sure, it's okay for things to take a bit of work, but there is nothing fun about trying to find the Defiler wreck at all.

I've got an idea for a new way of obtaining the Defiler, which would still be very difficult and time-consuming, but a lot more fun:

How about you create an NPC Phantom base that sends out very powerful NPC patrols, each patrol would include:

6x Phantom "Shadow" Very Heavy Fighters, equipped with:
4x Ahriman Plasma Cannon
2x Lamia Mark 1
2x Hellion Pulse Cannon
1x Mini Razor
Universal Armor Upgrade MK VIII
And the rest of the expected equipment; I'm just listing the weapons.

2x Phantom "Umbrage" Cruisers, equipped with uberl33tOMGcompH4X loadouts full of:
8x Basic Battleship Turret MK II
4x Basic Battleship Turret Mk I
Capital Armor Upgrade MKVIII

There would be one NPC patrol that orbits the station at a range of 5K from it. When NPC ships from the patrol are destroyed, replacements are sent out after 30 minutes.

The DEFILER codename weapon would have a 3% chance of dropping from one of the destroyed cruisers and a 2% chance of dropping from one of the fighters, giving the players a total 18% chance of getting a drop per patrol, granted that they are able to kill the extremely powerful NPC's. So, on average, 2 and a half hours (30 minutes per patrol, 5 patrols), would give the players one codename. Considering how many players would likely have to work together to effectively take out the patrols, this would take a lot of time and effort in order for the players to all get the DEFILERs they want, but it would be a lot more fun than the current wreck-scavenging.

In addition, I think it's always nice when there is secondary loot for players to obtain, something that they won't go there looking for, but that they'll still be happy to get when they see it: A lootable any-faction version of the Ahriman Plasma Cannon, which could perhaps be given a 2% chance to drop from the NPC fighters, just so players have a chance at getting some loot even if they don't get the DEFILER they want; so while both of these items would be very rare, the combined chance of getting at least one of them will be a total of 30% per NPC patrol, which would hopefully be enough that the players can enjoy themselves.

I really think that my proposed system would be a far more enjoyable alternative while still being quite difficult.

Any sort of challenge that involves NPCs become mute once the server hits 100 players.

Not really, the NPC's will still be challenging and fun with the loadouts I proposed for them. It's not like you'd have all 100+ players there to fight them. And if you did, there'd be a second challenge of who gets out alive with the gun.

Even when we had 200+ players, as many systems as there are in this game there were still barren parts of space.

what spazzy means is,

when the server pop reaches, and exceeds, 100

NPCs numbers are reduced to limit server load.

....

The NPC spawns are shut off once players reach 120 and severely reduced from 80-100.

They could always make an exception for particular spawns such as the phantom base.

If you are willing to code it, go ahead.

It's not my mod, and it's not my server. I don't see why you keep treating me like I'm an enemy of some sort, like you have to "trump" my posts.

I was merely trying to provide an idea.

Why should I write the code for it, only for it to be thrown away? I would rather the developers decide whether or not they like the idea and allow them to code it exactly the way they want it to be. It's safer that way, anyway; letting the community code the systems would pave the way for exploits of the code.

I'm not necessarily a fan of making it EASIER to find a very powerful weapon.

Sure, maybe YOU won't spend the time to search for the Defiler, but I'll be there some Code hunter or weapon dealer here who IS...and will likely get a decent profit selling them to fellas like yourself who are also too lazy.

Those who ARE willing to put in the time/effort should be the ones reaping the rewards of their work. Laziness shouldn't be rewarded, game or not.

It isn't a matter of "laziness".

What I proposed above would actually take longer and be more difficult to get a drop than the time of going through the wrecks, it would just be a lot more interesting and fun, which games are supposed to be.
