Les Maquisards

"Friend, do you hear the flight of the crows of despair over our plains?
Friend, do you hear the cries of our enchained nation?
Ohé! Partisans, workers and peasants, it is time!
Tonight the enemy shall know the price of blood and tears! "
- Le Chant Des Partisans

ID/IFF: Maquis

Leader: Dancing Lady

History
The Maquis began as a small splinter of the Council. They are renowed (and nowadays infamous) for their radical opinions and methods, even among their own ranks within the Council. While the Council wou leave civilian targets unharmed as a show of good grace, the Maquis pay no heed to the safety and wellbeing of third parties. So much that, early in their career, thousands of civilians died as a result of their many bombings throughout the Kingdom, which harmed the Council's reputation enough they had to take their distances away from the Maquis.

In theory, this meant that the Council would stop supplying and arming the radical group, but their devotion to the cause, as well as their formidable tacticians and fighters, gave tremendous results, causing them to form a de facto alliance. Turning into pragmatic predators, they formed alliances with the unlawful groups of Gallia, and expanded their operations to piracy and smuggling to help the small organisation fund itself.

Their ruthless acts caused them to be hunted down massively by the Police and Navy, dwindling their numbers over the years. Nonetheless, this ensures that any Maquis pilot is a formidable foe, equal only to the Corse, some claim. Others though claim that they're not half as great as their reputation claim they are due to their actions against civilians, though they have participated in many battles against the Royalist forces, including assisting during the final campaigns to open the way to Sirius, despite the organisation's apparent lack of care towards the Sirians: for them, the act was simply a way to further hinder and weaken the Royalists and be closer of their goal.

What is known today about the group today is that all Maquis members are devoting their lives to their cause, and that they are all ready to die for it. So far, there are very little Maquis prisoners as a result of the conflict, as they all either die in combat, suicide before their trial, or are even murdered by the Royals under the tremendous tortures that they sometimes endure without ever revealing a word about their group's plans.

Goals

1. Remove the Royal Family from the throne of Gallia to replace it by a government elected by the people.
2. Secure alliances with local unlawful groups against the Crown of Gallia.
3. Open relationships with Sirius on behalf of Gallia. (Low priority)

The Maquis care more about removing the Royal family out of their position than any other objectives, due to the multiple political views within the Maquis itself, the only common factor between members being their devotion to the cause.

Structure
The Maquis has no real structure due to the diverse political backgrounds of its members, from Right-wing nationalists to Communists and Socialists as well as Sirian volunteers. The group is organised in multiple cells, each of them cooperating with each others, making it so there are no clear leaders as a result, besides the multiple Cell leaders that actually operate. Individual cells often are limited to groups of 10-20 people at most, though Maquis wide operations are not unheard of. A cell typically has 1 Leader and 2 Lieutnants.

Relationships

Maquis relationships are highly variable, due to the volatility of the group.

Allies
The Brigands
The Unione Corse
The Council

Friendly
None

Neutral
Sirians
The Gallic Junkers

Unfriendly
Gallic Corporations
Outcast
Corsair

Hostile
Gallic Royal Police
Gallic Royal Navy

Technology
The Maquis are supplied, technology wise, by the Council since so many of their ships were destroyed by the Navy, though they do develop some of their own weaponry. They otherwise have access to Gallic Civilian technology, as well as limited access to Corse, and Brigands technology, as well as more rarely, Junker technology.

Naming conventions
Members of the Maquis are free to use codenames or their actual names as part of their identifications, though most prefer nicknames so to not have their name darkened by History.

The naming convention of Transports and other similarly sized vessels vary from one cell to the other, depending on the convictions of the cell.

Recruitment process
Those who are ready to pay the price of their blood (and to make the Royals pay double) are all free to join the ranks of the Maquis by completing the following form:

I am very okay with there being some risk to any Gallic traders; hopefully to combat the risk the GRP will return to deal with the Maquis, and then Gallia can be a real house.

Its good that someone is trying to breathe some life into Gallia, especially via this particular group. I tried to establish a Maquis group some time ago, but it eventually failed for some obscure reason that I can't recall. I hope this one won't suffer the same fate.

Best of luck to you.

The (relatively new) ID of the Maquis is very interesting for this: while the ZoI is limited, they can practically treat any target as combat targets, much like the Xenos, from Gallia to the Taus. Spreading havok to wake up lawfuls in those sector is one of my objectives here.

I'm glad this distinction was finally done (admitedly, it was already done a while ago in the previous mod version), otherwise they'd have simply been "The Gallic Brigands, but lamer".

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.

I look forward to seeing this faction as a success. It'll certainly make things interesting if the SCRA is ever in the Tau's!

I tried my own group a while ago and the 4.86 ID was pretty good for acting as the terrorist threat to all who do not know fear etc. etc. 4.86 Gallic activity on the other hand... not so great. Still used the ships for discouraging Zoner alt base-building jumptraders though Wink

The writeup seems fairly basic, but it is definitely Maquis compared to other groups like CoM who had a lot of 'extra details' that didn't seem so great to me. I hope the in-game mentality matches what they're hyped to be.

Awesome! Does this loose union of Maquis cells mean we can have Feu-de-Lys and Haches du Roi simultaneously as different cells?

While this seems very... vague... I strongly approve a new Maquis faction.

If you need any tips/help regarding Maquis lore feel free to contact me.

It is vague because it's a faction to represent a generic Maquis.

Plus, the Maquis is left pretty vague, infocard wise.

Sure, I don't think I'm aiming for officialness. If you want to make something official, though, ++| is a good tag, I think. I don't even need to be the leader.

EDIT: Well, as I'm apparently IP banned from the server, I don't see this going anywhere soon.

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.
