With the low class guns (vanilla 1 to 6) now being gone and / or reused, wouldn't it be nice if the new light fighter guns would reuse those old effects?

For example, the Flashpoints would get the (ex-Class 1) Starbeam effect.
Or the, hopefully coming soon™, faction-own class 6 guns would get their respective faction's low class effects - as far as they are usable and fitting for the gun line.

(On the Bluebell gun it is already "done", more or less, so I thought, maybe other guns could be made that way as well; I know the gun was just reused and changed in stats.)

Agreed, low class gun effects and shield effects could bring variety.

I'd say that new Kusarian civilian guns might use better effects.

Speaking of gun effects, I'd very like to see smaller projectiles. I understand Freelancer is an old game and had dated conceptions of sci-fi weapons, but I'm kinda sick of seeing small fighter guns shooting big bright blobs and bubbles. I appreciated the approach the mod took with mortar fire: if the explosion is gonna be big, the projectile is not necessarily the same. I'd like to see that principle applied to fighter guns as well.

Actually, they're broken. Was supposed to look like silver Skyblasts. No idea why they turned out like this.

It looks like the effect is somehow just oversized.

I don't know much about how the .ale things themselves (and the effect crc) work, but I'd guess someone set some size wrong in there. .ini don't have anything obvious sticking out for why it looks like that.

Besides that I think when they are fixed the will look very nicely, white Photon blasters. I imagined the Kusari civ guns to look that way.

But this is mostly about non-Class 8 guns here. I could imagine the Class 7 guns for example getting the ex-Class 8 / one-class-below-vanilla-highest-class available gun effects. IMG - again, I only take those as an example, because I looked through their effects a lot when I played around with getting them back into the game in .86 and .85 - IMG has for example some not-too-different-but-a-bit-different effects available from vanilla. So should every house gun.

For Light Fighter guns I could imagine using the very different looking lower class effects though. I know IMG low-class guns had some very different looks on them. It makes sense though, considering how they are much different statswise as well! And let's be honest, who didn't love the pewpewpew-effect the Starbeams gave? :3

I don't say "MAKE NEW EFFECTS!" I say, "use what we got to give a bit more variety".


I know though, that some effects didn't really fit in the line, for example the BHG guns were changed in projectile color, while the actual muzzle flash still stayed red (btw something that needs to be fixed on the Class 8 guns in game I think, if it wasn't fixed already; muzzle flash should be blue as well). So, such things need a little work...But most of the effects should be already there, and muzzle flashs as well as hit effects can be reused from higher classes if necessary...

Yeah, not liking the way those Kusari guns seem to have this weird laggy effect when fired. Don't know if that's just me though.
However, I do like the idea of using old effects, especially Starbeams.

EDIT: Kusari guns being the new Kusari Civilian guns.

Quinn, not all the low-end gun effects are looking bad. Corsairs class5-in-the-past guns have blood-red effect, which looks great.
