I'm sick and tired of losing several million credits because my train/transport/goddamn firefly is flying forwards into the planet, reversing, and still blowing up in the goddamn atmosphere.
As cool and 'realistic' as it might be to spend thirty seconds backing away from the mooring fixture, and sloooooooowly turning around (or just flying straight through it), all it's accomplished is everyone flying into a planet and dying.
Although i have never had this crashing into planets like you have
i do agree that the reversing is nice effect in a way, but so damn slow and annoying,
e.g. in a big trade ship if i need to go to the right hand lane, i hate having to reverse and SLLLOOOOWWWWLLLYYYY turning to the left and then SLOOOWWWWLLLLYYY have to turn all the way around.
I tend to spam F2 when I undock, in the previous verions it would undock me without the animation. In this one, I end up hitting the planet.

Yeah, I learned that from some your post long ago, and have been using it 'till 4.87. First time I undocked with my trans in new mod I died and since then I'm using 'free flight' for speed undock.
I think it was changed because some big transports(and some capitals too) were stucking on mooring fixtures on undock causing death, but it seems they are now moved a bit from planets so this undock sequence could be reverted like it was in previous version. I would like that a lot, it's a time savior and less annoying.

Now I mash F2 and, after that, Esc. It's still hazardous.
When I undock, I mash the F2, press free flight, engine kill, reverse thrust.
In that case I'm free, and I can go away.
When I read the title, I was hoping the community is want the old mooring fixtures back.. I mean, the ones, that you can dock snubs on = instadock. No need to watch many times how my ship proceed to the ring, and fly into the atmosphere..

It's enough to mash 'free flight' button, you get the same result. Try it.
