From my experience in my Sentinel which is an AI not robot, people treat it lke a robot with a hate. Especially bounty hunters and a Navy player treated it like a bad child. No trust no nothing.
People tend not to allow robots/machines to do police/navy work I seem to find.

I've found there is a severe lack of trust with robotic or artificial characters. Quite a lot of this stems from the classic "Kill all humans" idea that many on the server have taken up. If you explain your situation to people as best as you can (while staying in character) and show you're not going to harm them then you should be fine.
As far as I know, the only non-organics to publicly state that they recognize evolved A.I.s as co-equal sentients is the Junker Congress (Junkers are always ahead of the curve).
