In order to attack a POB, a player/faction must have RP on the forums prior to attack as stated in Rule 3.5

Quote:Quote:3.5 Roleplay is required before attacking or destroying a player owned base. The roleplay regarding this must be properly documented on forums and should match the roleplay and conduct of the characters involved based on the faction they belong to.

However, it is difficult for the owners of POB's to find those threads on the forums, and it's ridiculous to expect a player to have to search the entire forum everyday to make sure no statement of intent to attack has been issued.

Therefore, this thread has been created in order to centralize all communications regarding attacking POB's.

Please follow the template therein prior to attacking.

Rule 3.5 has been edited to reflect this change. It now states:

Quote:3.5 Roleplay is required before attacking or destroying a player owned base. The roleplay regarding this must be properly documented on forums, with the link(s) posted in this thread and should match the roleplay and conduct of the characters involved based on the faction they belong to.

Summer's Guidelines:
Quote:
Before you post:
  1. You must have RP reasoning to attack a base. This would usually be because you have some stake to the system it is located in and has not met your demands, or it belongs to a character/faction your character/faction doesn't like.
  2. The base must be within your ZoI to attack it.
For your RP:
  1. It must obviously be an inRP post, either in the RP section of the forums or the relevant faction section.
  2. Which character you are posting as and who you represent should be clearly stated.
  3. Any other factions you are contacting and/or involving must be clearly stated.
  4. The name of the base(s) you are attacking should be clearly stated.
  5. A base must exist before the RP happens: a declaration within house laws of all unregistered bases past and future would cover the RP reasoning but it does not cover you for 3.5
For the Declaration Thread post:
  1. Use the template.
  2. All intended attacking factions (IDs you represent, or specific faction tags if not) or individuals should be listed.
You are then free to begin the attack.

That's nice, but here's a question or two.

First of all, how do I prove that my base has been destroyed NOT by one of the group that has submitted an attack entry?

What happens if my base was attacked and destroyed even though there is no entry in that thread?

Can I report people, who casually shoot the bases shields on usually neutral characters.

I also wanted to ask, since I rp the same character on at least 2 ships sometimes, must I only attack with the one cited? The character name's on the infocard and rp is always corresponding. Or can I put down more than one ship that might be used for an engagement.

And can FL ID'd ships attack a base?

Attacking POBs is much like attacking other player characters now, just with a different format; this means no unless hired by a non-Freelancer ID'd character.

There was a sig here, once.

I think it is a mistake that in-game roleplay is omitted from the rule. Why does it HAVE to be forum roleplay in those cases where there are someone in-game that can roleplay?

It is also very unbalanced, killing a base is a forced roleplay event now, but building, maintaining and operating one (and it's weapon platforms) aren't necessarily a roleplay driven thing.

Bases should just be built and die without all of these clauses, heck even Vanilla had one blowing up, and no they didn't send a warning before doing that.

I have to agree with that. It seems quite unfair that while not a single letter of RP has to be provided for building, upgrading, maintaining and using said POB, but players that simply attack this POB (maybe even because it is their job? See law enforcement) have to provide this RP and it is now even easier for the base owners to see this warning.

So please, you should rather force roleplay onto base owners. Because as it is now, their construction can be ooRP, the maintenance can be ooRP, operating it can be ooRP. The base owners could care less about RP. While it is forced on the attackers.

Furthermore, do not force the forums on the attackers either. I think having plenty of ingame conversations with the owners or suppliers, telling them why their base has to be destroyed (illegal construction etc), that should be sufficient.

Plus the thread you made will soon be spammed to death by tons of indies, I assume.

@the change: Good call.

@those, who say: "unfair to have attack as rp, while lolwut base can be rather no-rp"

It's not unfair. Even the lolwut-no-visible-rp base owner spent billions and weeks.

How much exactly do you lose when you fail? 500k in regens.

Writing 1 post takes you 2-5 minutes, depending on how well you want to do it. That's entirely possible, compared to the daily grind that the other side does.

The base owner should take all of that into consideration when he builds the base.

What you potentially lose is faction activity. People fear for jumphole blockers and the likes now having more time to build. Imagine if the Leeds - Magellan or Leeds - New London holes were blocked? GG GRN activity. Nobody wants to "fight" invincible static objects.

How about, with these new PoB rules, we add one that forbids building within 10K of an existing "object", be it a station, gate or jumphole? Those things do nothing but remove incentive to log on.

If attackers are asked to act responsibly, at least ask the same of base builders.

Edit: As a force of habit I tend to shoot up the shields of any base that shoots at me. Do I have to go post on the forums for each base I do that to? What if a hostile force uses it as cover?
