I have been a bit of an idiot and had forgotten what the purpose of the Gunboats are and asked for Gunboats to get a Mortar and an Inferno.
I now realise they shouldn't have them.
What a Gunboat needs now has become remarkably clear.
Fast-firing anti-fighter turrets are needed.
Anyway, after having a long discussion with Kiggles we have decided that the stock weapons on Gunboats are no use for what Gunboats are supposed to do.
I need you guys to think back to World War II
The Fighters of Freelancer are the equivalent of the WWII fighter planes, lethal little strike craft with torpedoes and little armor, but very small and fast so proved hard to kill.
To counter this the big ships, in this case Gunboats, defend themselves with AA guns and Flak Cannons.
So I was thinking for the primary turrets, have them as Fast-firing high-speed guns with decent range but not lots of damage.
GUNBOAT PRIMARY TURRET
Refire - 8.33
Range - 800m
Projectile Speed - 1000m/s
Shield : 250
Hull: 125
They would act as the AA guns.
And for the secondary turrets, Fast-firing flak turrets with long range at a reduced refire rate.
GUNBOAT SECONDARY TURRET
Refire - 4.00
Range - 1200m
Projectile speed - 600m/s
Shield: 200
Hull: 400
They would act as the flak guns.
Yeah, I realised that the Gunboat doesn't really fit its role when I saw this. I agree with the turret changes except for the flak one. I should have a 800m/s projectile speed not 600.
well id say the Projectile Speed should be 1100 like the Bs turrets and the
manouverablity should be better at the cost of armor and batts/bot space also all the Gun points should be able too turn 360 horizontally and 180 vertically
also they should do less dmg and have faster refire rate the Forward gun should be removed anf replaced with better Power capacity and recharge
then one could make a Gun Boat thats a Cap kille with 4 Turrets and 4 guns
which is extremly slow and ponderous too fly
When I hear gunship, I think of the Specter Gunship.
I'm basicly in agreement that Gunships are mostly anti-fighter. They should have a little anti-capship weapons, but not enought to take one alone. That, and the ability to swoop in on fixed defences, such as WPs and MWPs.
