The phantoms were the only, mind, only faction from back in my memory, where having them pop up on the scanner meant certain death. Flee or be killed, if you even can. It was thrilling, scary and you know you could not reason with it.

You could not even fight it, because their ships were indeed better. That was the thing about the Phantoms. That is what made them Phantoms.

Removing those two things would ruin the faction. Imho, if you wanted to remove it just because of that, then keep them removed and let us bask in memories when they were a threat.

Please do not ruin them. Do not try and defang them in order to have them fit in the very strict lore and rule driven Discovery of 7 years later.


Discuss and vote. I am not the person, who whines about additions and removal of things by the devs, no matter how odd they may seem, but I would really hate for this to happen. A watered down version of a truly remarkable enemy we oldfarts used to face back in 07 08.

My take on this. If you are going to bring them back, bring them back as they were. A small group of HIGHLY skilled players, flying terrorist IDs and given access to specifically unbalanced ships to cause threat and fear to the opposing forces.

Or don't bring them back at all.

Least of all, do not make them public.

Keep em out, we're already having a hard time keeping the current factions alive. What ever their goals might be. Another terrorist faction would probably kill the activity of others even more

I think it is logical and self understandable that these new phantoms wouldn't retain anything significant from the old ones other than the name.

Although, I wouldn't exactly think of it as a watered down version, the phantoms you speak about were pretty much of a cliché. As far as I understand, they were nothing but nutcases, religious fanatics and zealots who justify their violence like some sort of a "jihad" which, in my opinion is nothing but a cliché, an overused idea.

The phantoms now have an opportunity to have their purpose and reason of existence animated, to really justify their violence, their actions with purposes, well worked purposes and not blatant, shallow, overused excuses.

That's the way I see it, at least

I met a Phantom on my Mafic once who just asked for BB and then left.
And then I continued mining and all was fine.

When I was back on Java I rolled up in foetal position in a corner and cried.



I don't see what Phantoms could add to this mod, what doesn't already exist through other factions.
And I smell yet another Outcast-clone coming.

If people were not so...you know...such d...s and all, and only cared about GOOD roleplay and not just about hurting the person behind the other character and screwing others as hard as possible and all, I'd totally prefer having the RPish, scary Phantoms back. But since people still are the-short-form-starting-with-D-of-the-name-Richard-s, no thank you. So, yeah, no, don't think we really need them. But then again, will it hurt to have what is already in the mod made useful to some degree? One more faction to not be active?

Agreed.

I'm not a oldie, but I can understand what spazzy is saying.


Though, I'm open for their tech to be used by all via SRP.

Wow... I didn't think of this until now...

The Disco playerbase is pretty much spread out quite... widely thanks to the big number of systems and factions.

An extra faction to toy with may not be in its benefit. Or... who knows... maybe it can attract more people and complement

Alright then, lets bring back Military Sirius-wide ID?

Anyway, Phantoms did their work in the past - somehow buff unlawful activity everywhere, since back to these days everyone played lawful sides, wanted to be a "good boys".

Remember these raids of Phantoms into Rheinland infront of New Berlin, o my god what a facepalm. And you want bring this back, seriously? Phantoms used to work in game as LNS/RNC. Honestly, we don't need sirius-wide unlawfuls anymore. In this case, we can used Pirate ID.

Which itself is also a bad ID, which either needs to be removed or nerfed severely.

Wouldn't work these days because they'd be turned into 'safe toy' with all safety regulations stacked there. Essentially these new ones would be Phantoms only-in-name. In that capacity that would resemble nothing what they were in the past. It's a history of this mod, and it doesn't need to be turned into pale shadow of mockery. Honor faction maker decision.

Reminds me of overpowered .85 Keepers/Wilde.

That said, I enjoyed my encounters with Phantoms. Knowing that you'll certainly die if you won't solve their unresolvable puzzles. Bringing them back - different/balanced - sounds wrong to me. But we'll see what the future will bring. After all, nomads got somehow ruined, too. One can't take them as a serious threat anymore. Maybe the same will happen with Phantoms now.
