What keeps me still wondering is, why are there just ship replacements. It's a long time I've seen a completely new ship was introduced.
There are so much awesome models outthere and I think beneath some good RP the hunt for a ship is still one of the most interesting parts of the game. Furthermore it won't make sense that the most factions are just upgrading their current ships, as expanding is still the ability of any kind. Currently it just like if a shiptype receives an overhaul the whole line flys into the dumpster.
Also in view of the zoner discussion
What I suggest is make ships much much much more expensive. It's quite ilogical that you pay 400mill for a BS and 800mill for an armor upgrade. Even though I don't have a BS, but I think to pay min 1,5 bill is worth in my opinion.
Why aren't the new shiptypes just added. Adjust the Zoner ID for caps and the problem is solved mostly.
I still want more individuality for every player without the need of SRP the all.

Price of the BS has not been changed for a long time. In 4.84 when money was not so much easy to earn like now the price of BS was good then but now its too low.
I prefer the BS too be much expensive like you.

...
There are a number of reasons why more models are being replaced at the moment than introducing new models, based on Dev team policies.
1) We want to improve the quality of existing ships. Imported models and low-quality models are not desirable.
2) We want to avoid mod bloat. There are already plenty of ships that are less popular, so much so that they're almost never used. Rather than add new ships, it would make sense to overhaul these ships and make them attractive to use. Additionally, given that there are more ships available than slots on the server, even if everyone logged on was using a different ship, there would still be some models being unused. (Whether or not this is actually a negative factor could still be discussed, but the first part of this point still applies.)
3) Availability of modellers. We are restricted as to what we can add to the mod, as most of the time we rely on modellers working on their own initiative to come to us to submit their work. Since modellers will usually work on the ships they are personally interested in making (as opposed to working on a commissioned project), it's difficult to judge what models will get replaced at a certain time. Modellers may also be more inclined to work on ships that are more likely to be accepted, and that's based on what the mod needs the most.
