1. The starting system is in Liberty
2. Liberty has a lot of trade routes that run through it.
3. It has quite a lot of high value sell points.
4. LNS, Lolpirates.

Damn straight, as J Mcclain said once.
Also, Liberty always was a buisy place, it's just ppl became bored to fly tones of K from system X to system Y for some encounter and interaction, which might not always be pleasant.
Also 2. It seems, that Liberty has more thing "to do" when you are alone, or few guys, who seaking for some PvE, rather than PvP.
When we had easy cap missions in 85 and early 86, there were always players in Gamma/Alpha. So here goes raids, + Near Alpha was CR and IMG who dised OCs, and near Gamma was no PoB, so RH also could dis Sairs pretty much. So there is action Nr 3.
Omicron minor wasn't screwed, and there were pretty much BHG and Cores, Order, LNSies, and sometimes even Sairs. Here goes action Nr 4.
And another also- there were pretty other stuff, and they were ok, before we had introduction of new systems layout, PoB, cloaks, and other, what devs have found at junkyard.
House that is by far the least annoying to navigate. Smaller systems, no hostile battleships (to non-pirates), local law enforcement aren't basically japanese nazis (Looking at you Kusari).
Most recognizeable after playing Vanilla, the others are just kinda afterthoughts.
Could be interesting to move Liberty elsewhere, and have a huuuuuuge battlefield in the center of Sirius that would immediately suck up new players into picking a side

With one-way jump holes leading to all the faction capitals.
