We all know Discovery as a whole is dying right now. No matter how high the numbers on the player list goes, it's still usually under 100 at peak hours. In order to help jumpstart the server after the attacks, I propose that we reimplement the /restart betatestcash command from the earlier days of the 4.87 beta.

Why? As of right now, there are two major reasons that people are leaving Discovery.

Reason 1: Rotten Community. This is self-explanatory.

Reason 2: Lack of incentive to grind for toys to have fun with.

If we can remove reason 2, which is argueably easier to remedy than reason 1, we can get some people back.

Discuss.

No.

This command is stupid. And it creates lolwuttism.

We can manage by reasonable change.

There is an old saying which is increasingly pertinent in the world of today "easy come easy go".

I think this is one of the problems with Disco recently and do not think a restart to exacerbate this will help.

Yes, when you get easy cash and can try out any ship without any effort, it would get boring in the long term, especially for ones that are joining in new.

They might get bored of all the shiny stuff and leave, before they can get to know the real fun in Discovery that is RP'ing and sci fi playing/writing which is not seen in many Space MMORPG forums. This makes Disco unique and this is what people should get to know, the ones that start out and seek larger ships, if can be properly lead into this mindset, that shiny ships are not the only fun, we can have a population that sustains for a longer period of time and a good number of people incoming.

Well, having more money than you can spend allows you to focus on PvP aspects of game. Works fine for me.
But with said restart... there will be only RP-traders, therefore disco will become enagagubung-red-target-with-battleship-PvP-24/7. Not sure that this's what we want.

If you want anarchy, it's fine. Otherwise, it's a bad idea.

One of the worst ideas so far.

Indeed as above, this will ruin things even more.

We need a wipe and trimming of systems to a few more than vanilla.

I'm not really gonna go and individually quote, but listen to this here.

@Jack: You play frequently in the Taus, and you know that there's already ample lolwuttery all over the place up there. What would change?

@Moriarty: The lolwut cycle of Discovery is already just "powertrade-buy battleship-die a lot-rage-leave, so what would change? It only lessens the amount of time needed to weed out those silent powertraders and people who are here just to shoot each other. Notable examples include CGS, RNC, Scylla Squad, and Outcast Dread spam.

@Zayne: This could have as many RP benefits as PvP benefits. See the Renzu liner you want to buy for your pompously rich and overtly finespun Zoner but don't want to powertrade and painstakingly grind for it? Now you could purchase it and then those involved in your RP and you as well would benefit. Making a Navy faction but can't purchase the goods needed for one? Now you can. Want to make the player base of your dreams? Go ahead. Hate playerbases but don't want to spend time getting cash to shoot them? (coughomicegacough) Now you can fly around shooting them. The possibilites are practically endless.

@Lyth: The beta period was an anarchy because the game was in a beta. New features had just been added and people wanted to test them out. The game has stabilized now and the new features have kinda become redundant.

The betatestcash command is meant to boost activity where it is nonexistant. It would help old Discovery vets come back from their activity wiped accounts and allow them to experiment with all of the new things they've missed. Activity would be promoted even if it was in the form of PvP. The old BHG Core vs Order battles were full of people on both sides, and they seemed to be shooting each other in caps anyways. RP will still exist where it always will, and may even see a boost with people experiencing things they normally wouldn't. It's not like it'll be around forever, either. Maybe some weekends we'll have a lolfest and then rollback. There's leeway here for the way we apply it.

We're currently only delaying the inevitable, so why don't we make our last days the best days of Discovery since 4.85? After all, at the end of the day, Discovery is all about having fun, be it with friends in a Teamspeak lobby or with some random people you've never met outside of Manhattan.
