Well, look what I've done. It's been discussed a LOT of times, I know, but I still tried my luck on this one as well, this time with a wee bit of research. All weapons are in shield damage, efficiency and DPS right between the Tizona Del Cid and the Imp Debilitator and... Meh, just look at it. (EDIT; Now in picture form for better view:P)
No, I got NO names for the pulse guns, and I got NO class 1-8 versions of them. All are Class 9.
Hm. Call the Liberty Pulse the Detainer, the Bretonian Pulse the Purgatory, the Kusari Pulse the Cleanser, and the Rheinland Pulse the Lightning Strike.
I don't think they are that necessary to implement but on the other hand assuming these are Military and Police only (NO PIRATES) it makes sense to add them.
some points:
1. DPS should be a bit closer to Imp. Deb (so some 2.7k max)
after all Corsairs have slow ships to compensate better guns
2. Their projectile size is important
Debs have huge projectiles making aiming easier
3. Rheinland one is bit too good
5.88 makes for a bit more pray and spray => easier aiming, though a bit at disadvantage in pure 1vs1.
I think it's DPS should be on the same lvl as kusari one.
4 All houses have 2 guns - so there comes the question which one they should be matched with
If you match Bretonian one with Ultra Sunrail (like you did), brets can still use Imp.Debilitator to match with Adv. Splitter.
On the other hand Liberty and Rheinland have their ones matched with the fast guns resulting in almost same speed as Imp. Debs... and also still leaving Magma Hammers/Firekisses without shieldbuster to match with. (note that they are likely to get 600m/s speed)
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
All projectiles hit at a point so that isnt an issue. All shots have the same hit area, which is a tiny point at the front of the projectile. Its most easily seen with the Salamanca or disinfector animation, where the discharge effect from the shot can pass through ships causing a miss, while technically part of the shot hit. Obviously, I have no proof, but its the speed that makes debs easier to aim, not the hit area, which is the same...
I mean, you seen a battlerazor? I've practically flown through them and seen people fly through mine (during the age of battlerazoring fighters). Most easily seen when Bretonian battleships are kicking the stuffing out of pirate and kusari patrols.
Rheinland gun should in my opinion have a dps around that of the Liberty pulse..
Kusari gun should also use a tad more energy per shot.
But thats just my opinion.
And I have this trebuchet just for you! *Loads boulder*
Shield busters are meant to be a bit more unique than we put them with here in Disco.. Corsairs have them to make up for their low agility, let it stay that way.. I barely EVER find someone to fight with that isn't loaded with Debs. Its gotten bad enough that I go and try to convince people who thought up questionable, and even legit reasons as to why they can use them, to get rid of them and go back to conventional weapons.
That includes the GC (trying to get Kuraine is outlaw using Debs and allow codies for the bombers instead, with the fighters using L9s + few codes).
The Outcasts (Debs aren't necessary to drop a Titan/Praetorian shield..).
The Blood Dragons (NPG and HG).
Etc. The only two ships I have that use Debs are my LPI, due to Ageira (I think?) that builds them, and my Lane Hacker (indie), for same reasons..
It really annoys me to see KNF, BAF, OC, GC, BD, and everyone and their mothers using shield busters. It kills the fun of a fight. There is nothing to pvp anymore but dodging nuke mines and supernovas.
Meh. Others can have their own shieldbusters if they want to. I like the idea of having each weapon named after a legendary sword (following on from Tizona Del Cid);
Gram. Sword of Siegfried in Norse myths. (aka. Balmung, Nothung). Assoceated with Rheinland.
Hrunting. Sword given to Beowulf. (epic associated with Scandinavian and English national identity). Bretonia of Rheinland.
Caliburn/Caledflwch. Sword of King Arthur (Excalibur alternative). Bretonia.
Arondight. Sword of Lancelot. Bretonia.
Kusanagi. "legendary Japanese sword as important to Japan's history as Excalibur is to Britain's". Kusari.
No ideas about Liberty though; the USA is a bit short of unique legends.
Also, on the names, Caliburn is derived from Gram.
Gram = Sword in the Tree.
Caliburn = Sword in the Stone.
Besides, Im not sure the names there fall in line with the naming conventions of guns of those respective factions... I mean, Hornviper, Firekiss, all sound quite harsh and poisonous. Gram sounds like a wieght measurement.
while i also agree with Dab.... - we face a difficult problem there that cannot easily be solved.
having shieldbusters is - in most cases - beneficial over having "normal guns". its simply that - easier to and more efficient to fight that way. - that doesn t mean that normal guns are bad or anything - it just means its easier with shield busters, cause the player can almost totally ignore a half of the opponents defensive - the shield.
i would never frown upon someone who uses only shield busters ( for one, cause i do it, too - for another, cause i see no reason to look upon it negativly ) - but then i do not think that missile gunboats are bad either - but i think they are a brilliant idea ot counter the fighters. ( an opinion where i feel quite alone with ... and i m not even flying a gunboat )
it started with the outcasts getting the inferno - i would ask .... "why did they get it in the first place". they do not "deserve" one, cause it somewhat messes up the balance of the fighters - titan vs. sabre ( thats exagerated, i know - it does not mess it up THAT much .... and "deserve" is not the right term anyway ) - all the other factions should not have a shield buster either. - the whole debilitators are crap ( from a RP point of view ) - we took whats unique for the corsairs and gave it to everyone. - extreme balancing.... .
i have experiemented with the guns ( only on my BHG though ) - and the point is ... while 6 buckshots are awesome.... 4 imp debilitators + 1 firestalker + 1 cannoball are simply better for my needs. - stripping the enemies shields in one single pass if lucky - spam them with missiles. - cheap, one might say - but much more efficient than firing 6 buckshots - but on the other hand, having shield busters and missiles doesn t help much against an enemy that does not joust you... - so there is a bit of balance, while it helps tremendously to have 6 buckshots when you re chasing someones tail.
either way - the numbers appear fine - but i m not fond of the idea to give everyone and their grandma shield busters. - we already give the same people a supernova of their own, even if their factions are poor, pathetic and outright unskilled for such a piece of technology.
the direction we are steering to is to give every faction everything to create a balance where everyone has everything - but in RP, cause everything exists in every factions variants ( except the factions that have no one to speak up for them )
I've got a torn opinion here and I cannot make up my mind.
I would like to see more shield busters, but they are purely in there for PvP purposes, then again so are weapons all together. Shield busters are nice in combat, they either have Tizonas or Debilitators...
On the flip side, I can't stand seeing more shield busters, people have found a way to RP a debilitator, or Tizonas onto their ships.
I like the idea that the new House weapons will match the other weaponry so it can be a bit more balanced. However, all factions will then demand their own shield busters. BHG doesn't need it, we have Debilitators matched with Buckshots;)
I can't agree or disagree, but I'd like to see how this turns out.
