Capital Ship missiles are normally 10% faster then most fighter crafts and speed up rather quickly, making them perfect anti-snub weapons. Example is that dumb-firing Battleship missiles reach 11k in distance
Yes, when your shields go down, explosive damage can eventually destroy your equipment in addition to your hull (guns, thruster, shield, etc.). People can also sub-target equipment to deliberately damage them with conventional weapons.
If you have equipment destroyed and then die/sundive/planetdive, it will be restored. However, if you dock before dying, any damage or destroyed equipment will have to be repaired/replaced.

Cap missiles accelerate exponentially, starting at the speed their parent vessels were moving at the point that they were fired. So you have the combined speed of the initial firing, plus the acceleration of a missile fired at a proper distance = bad times for a fighter.
EG: dont wanna die to cap missiles?
