Hello all you Vista specialists. Just had to reformat my machine and now the microphone jack in the front of my comp wont work. When i go into the sound and speech centre it tells me to use the jack at the rear of my machine but doesnt give me any options to use the one at the front. Any ideas ???

Welll, did it come with any drivers? A CD or something?

If it didn't, do you have the original driver disks that came with the computer?

some times, you have to reinstall your drivers as well when you reformat your computers. In fact, you almost have to.

All the drivers have been re-installed and are to date.

And you haven't touched anything else? You have not opened the case or touched BIOS? Not accidentally un-plugged the front jack while doing something inside the case?

That's just to clear that possibility.

Couple of things you could try. Plug the mic in the forward jack and reboot and see if Vista recognizes it there. Or go to Control panel -> hardware -> force detection of new hardware while the mic is in the front jack.

Flying under radar.

yea if its not working, the panel in the front isn't plugged in. When mine was plugged in the wrong way, or not plugged in, my computer warned me every time I booted my computer.

So its probably not plugged in.
