Ok ... throwing myself to the wolves. But I'd like some honest discussion here.

We (for the most part) accept that Liberty indies have the same authority as Liberty player faction members ... and the same with the other major factions.

When a Liberty Navy indie tells you to do something in Liberty space and you don't ... all of Liberty comes down on you.

When an Order indie tells you to do something in Order space and you don't ... all Order comes down on you.

So ... question is ... would you not expect the same authority from other factions? Wouldn't you be expected to show the same respect for authority to other faction's indies?

If not ... please explain why not?

EDIT: Not talking about indies creating, modifying or removing laws. I'm only speaking of indies having the same authority to "enforce" the laws of the officially recognized faction.

I think that organized factions should/have authority over Independents. I know it sounds crazy but I think they should. The main thought that comes to mind is:

The United States Navy is a pretty good force by itself. The people that join go through training and such. If a person was to come out of the blue and claim they are USN without any qualifications or training and end up going to war(traveling his/her self) and gets killed. everyone would:

1. Look down on the USN for allowing a self proclaimed "military expert" to go fight a war for them
2. The USN would have to tell the family about what happened and how it happened(although its not thier responsibility)
3. Riot

Now, although indies and factions pretty much work together on the server, I think the official factions should take the lead....since they are the ones that know what they are doing. Besides, I don't expect a "self proclaimed USN Admiral" to go tell a small wing of USN ships to nuke some third world country. Thus I don't expect it to happen on the server.

In other words. I really think that indies and factions should work together, take orders from each other(to extents) and have fun. I voted "No" on this poll because I am actually neutral in the case. I have a few indie characters but I know what the official factions are and I will respect any order that they give

-I would rather say, respect themselves. But no, they cannot have an equal authority as us. Otherwise they could change our laws to make them fit their needs, Start wars, Ban people from Liberty, etc. We don't want this, and an indie doing that would get OMGWTFPWN quite fast...
HOWEVER, he can enforce the law, as long as he does it right

-If you are speaking like if you were a mere civilian, etc talking to an indie... Then yes, IF and only IF the indie is following the RP he should (like enforcing laws, etc)
-However, if you mean an indie bossing around a factionnized player... Happens sometimes, but those who are tolerated doing so are "leading" in a respectful way and aren't imposing themselves too much. But sometimes you get those smacktards screaming orders in system chat, and treating you like crap... They die pretty quickly... Especially when they try to boss me around... I'm the second leader of the LSF, I doubt anyone beside an admiral or my boss could outrank me... he can give me orders if he wants, like in battles, if he feels like organizing the stuff go on, but at the second he stops doing it in respect, I will bash so hard, that the player will most of the time make a huge call for the WHAMBULANCE on forums.

Kinda the same answer as above, just replace words.

:S I don't understand the question, may you restate the querry differently and elaborate it more?

Eihwaz? You want to give single persons the authority of entire governments and organized militaries?

I'll say it again. Eihwaz? We don't do that in the part of space I used to fly in...

Might as well post something until it either gets locked of flooded.

Not to change laws, but to enforce the same rules and be treated equally in general.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

No the LN does not consider ANY indies as equals. (apparently...)

One once asked me my rank, and I introduced myself as a Commander and the LNs responce was something along the lines...

"Indies have no rank, you have no authority, listen to my orders... blah blah..."

i voted yes, is the indy has a good place in his RP of what ever faction he is playing as, (ie: No leet speak, proper RP loadout, ID and IFF match) then i would play along with him as he were a member of a official faction. Although. If there is a member of the official faction that he does not belong, i will go with them.

With the forum being faction heavy, and with many faction people here having multiple logins and therefore multiple votes, this should be a landside against the indy.

Thank you, your negativity is noted.

I find this poll very poorly designed. When you compare an entire faction to a single individual, of course the faction is going to come out on top. Not because the faction is more powerful or anything else, but the fact that the faction consists of many individuals.

Allow me to clarify this logic, American Football style.

The New England Patriots vs. Brett Favre = Clear Patriots Victory
The New England Patriots vs. Brett Favre and various other leading players, from T.O. to Dan Marino(time machine reverse 20 years) = more or less fair fight.

But I do believe that the factions really have no right to dictate what an indy can or cannot do in terms of RP. In the case of mb52, I ask the LN member who said that...

What would you have lost if mb52 were a commander?

In FL fleet combat, it really doesn't matter anyways. You listen to the person who's got the most control over the situation.

Really, for both sides, mature up. It's a game. If you ego can't take the fact that someone who didn't work up the ranks like you did, you in for a real surprise when you walk out of your room into real life.

If you don't like someone's RP, ignore it, or simply play along. Who knows, if you lightened up, you might actually have some fun.
