I'd say it doesn't fit very well for a lawful character. The Border Worlds vessel line is for just that; Border Worlds pilots. This includes Freelancer, Mercs, Zoners, and a gaggle of other ragtag pilots. Police and Military have their own ships. These ones don't.
As i have mentioned in another topic, BW line ships are sold on unlawful bases only.
So a lawful char with BW fighter is an odd view.
The Dromadary, i agree, should be excluded, since civilian line is missing a freighter.
I agree it's odd, but selling points shouldn't be taken into account, AoM. That's been said a million times. The selling points right now don't make sense, they can't dictate RP.
But a lawful flying a Border Worlds vessel still seems odd. More info would help.
borderworld ships description are too vague to rely on, really. They tend to suggest they'd be zoner manufactured machines, yet zoners only use dromadery from this line.
You should generally go by the rule "If your own faction has a ship of the appropriate type, use it over all others".
House militaries all have LF's, HF's, VHF's, and usually bombers & capships. There's no reason for a house military character to ever use a civilian, pirate, or borderworlds ship.
in theory - a house police member can of course fly a BW ship. - BW ships ( ideally placed on civilian stations in the borderworlds instead of outcast owned places ) are nothing else but sturdy civilian ships.
so - if you see policemen using eagle / startracker ships - you would also see them use BW ships. ( in theory )
on the server however... it would look a bit funny. - i would accuse anyone other than a borderworld inhabitant that used a BW ship to only do it cause its utterly overpowered in terms of agility etc. - in RP, it would be hard to maintain such a ship ( not impossible but hard ) - and as a regular member of a policeforce, you d not get the permission.
think of it that way... if every policeman drove any car he wanted... it was not only a logistic nightmare, but it would also work detrimental towards a the effect of recognition. - when you see a patriot, you think of police. - when you see a sabre you think of a pirate on the outcast side.
by the official rules - you are allowed to fly a BW ships, as they are civilian ships. - but by roleplay standards, such a char would drop into the "special chars" section... cause only a special ( that means, uncommon ) policeman would be allowed to fly it.
the above is not a matter of the superiority of the ship. - imo, even if a policeman was flying a starflier by choice... he would have to be labelled "special RP char"... cause its out-of-the-ordinary for a policeman.
The only thing I will say about selling locations is that people have been sanctioned for trying to purchase ships that are only available at places that the person should not be able to land. So unless you get the ship, first thing on a new character (I guess) you may be in trouble.
A House military or police force is the sort of organization that sticks with standardized ships, and for good reasons. First, appearances. A unified force of similar ships simply looks better and more professional than a Scimitar, Eagle, Hussar, Raven's Talon, and Stinger, to say nothing of the traditional association of Border Worlds ships with pirates. Second, maintenance. Because of the number of ships that have to be maintained, and the number of people who need to be trained in their maintenance, deviating from one primary ship line can be costly and time-consuming.
The Civilian ships are a little more easily justified for police (especially the LPI, as a corporation) since maintenance on a civilian craft is probably rather easy - even if you agree that the Border Worlds ships are essentially more advanced ships that are publicly available (as Jinx and I do, actually), the "more advanced" part implies more difficulty in repairs and part replacement.
So, my answer's "no", most of the time. That said, though, you could perhaps justify it with some sort of undercover or spying RP - you should contact the lawful agency (and perhaps target faction) in question about that first, though, and you likely would not want to use the police/military ID anyway.
