It'd be extremely useful if we had the laws of various Houses/Factions/Regions as a Server Commodity for people who are less versed in the forums to look at, or for much quicker access when roleplaying in game. Factions could also dispense the commodity to other players and RP making them reading the laws.

Thoughts?

That'd probably help a lot.

Quite a good idea. Though, the forum-side law threads can be updated any time, while the inGame ones need an extra patch to keep them updated. (Not sure if I am wrong here)

They can be separately updated via a server side patch that can be implemented after the server restart. Govs/Factions can inform the admins when they're updated.

I suggested it so I think it´s good idea Smile
On a serious note, only possible problem I see is the update issue. I mean laws don´t change often usually, but sometimes they do and sometimes even a lot (Rheinland laws were changed/updated like three times in last month). So it would be quite for problem if some laws would be added/changed on forums, but it would take days or even weeks to update the text to ingame commodity what will create conflicts when lawfuls would enforce these laws and player would be arguing they are not on the commodity text.

I mean, if this would require waiting for patches, then I would think twice before using this.

EDIT: Obviously some RFP ninja has same thoughts Smile It is good to hear that it doesn´t require regular patches, however even when "just" admin action is necessary...well, I have some concerns...

On a ragebreak. Or ragequit. Time will tell.

Factions/Govs could also set dates with the admins for when every law change that occurs over a one month period gets written into the infocard. Like how modern Governments will announce a law change/addition and give a date when it'll be implemented.

Would not be against it if it was just some bare-bones laws, but eww to the idea of it being the official faction laws, those are way too biased towards the official factions, we really do not need them becoming even worse.

Honestly there is a lot of information that it would be nice to have spawn on new ships.

It would be impossible to put everything in such text, but I suppose a list related primarily to commodities or embargoes, & perhaps banned capital ships could be done. There is also the issue of price, since it should be valuable enough to provide some incentive for a person to accept one, possibly requiring them to dump cargo to take it. I'd guess around 5k/unit.

But this is really something that House police and military official factions should request. Because if they aren't interested it's just a waste of time.

And I suppose this would fall within my Dev domain, so there you are. Technically this is easy to implement. But I'd want to see some official interest and investment in generating the texts.

Could use the 'event commodities' placement(or make a new dynamic entity) as them I guess? You can dynamically change infocards without having to update the game files itself.

Though this would require regulation as the laws are updated constantly, which would require an admin to be pestered.

Or would it be possible to create a system where a text file could be dynamically edited on the forums - the game taking the data from the forums and using it as the ingame infocard?

Update issues and a certain randomness comes to the mind as potential problems.
If these can be overcome, sure. Why not.
