Current definition:
* Metagaming: When game information outside of what is available in a game is used to give a player an advantage in-game.

Proposed definition
* Metagaming: Using information beyond the limits of what is available to your character.

Metagaming: A player having information beyond the limits of what is considered available to the character and is used to an advantage in-game

+1

On a side note, I'm curious how people see metagaming and using the player list to find other players.

Yes, or both.

Wouldn't hurt being descriptive.

Looking at the player list for a system or 2 is fine by me. But traveling the whole Sirius like some people actually did to me is a bit overboard. I mean, most of the encounters would not actually happen if someone did not look at the player list.

Adding to it: Using ooRP information that is or is not in the availability of an iRP character would be considered metagaming.

May I ask: Is it clearly stated the ingame player list is not available to characters? I'm not sure about that, since the list is also used to switch to private channels. I know, a big amount of players don't RP in group and private channels, but are they definitely considered ooRP/meta?

Just asking. I, for myself, think it's annoying how often player tell me via private channel "pirate x is now here and there" or "there are x pirates here". I like those encounters to happen random, but I think it's okay to take a peak on this list to see where the action is (ie. those omega/omicron battles most of the normal players don't get to see). But that's only my opinion, and since I'm relatively "new", I'm not aware of all the arguments.

Yeah the definition should change.

Might help shut up those people who whine about the player list too.

The one thing that I'm agreed with @"Snak3" is that "Metagaming" needs to be redefined, so +1

As I said in chatbox recently, casual glance at Player List to find interactions is fine. Stalking someone by using it is not.
