Since starting OSC| last year I've been looking for ways to improve upon the most prominent issue my members bring up, passenger routes.
The Issues
Whilst our current routes are functional and reasonably profitable there is a lack of variation in destinations and in some cases an utter absence of passengers (liners full of Furs spring to mind) which makes our usual RP somewhat difficult to pull off in addition to throwing our entire niche out the window.
The variety we have consists almost entirely of planets stocking Vacationers who only sell points are the Shetland or Hawaii which they only connect to freeports 4 & 14, more Vacationers or Curacao (Hawaii's connection to the Mackinac will probably be removed or lessened when the latter moves) compounding the problem further. For a visual representation of the current routes I give you this:
That is the entire Sirian connection of passenger only routes, that is bases that buy passengers and also sell passengers, as you can see its the complete opposite of pretty (the breakdown album offers a far clearer picture, figuratively and literally.). As you can imagine, trying to make headway with all that information got me nowhere fast so I went back to the very core of the matter and taking into account the upcoming move of the Mackinac came up with this.
The Idea
The goal is to make passenger moving a more fluid experience whilst still following the A -> B -> C -> A standard Xoria has set and providing a solid foundation which can be used to better intergrate Gallia into the Sirian routes. Keep in mind this deals only with the points of origin for passengers, the exception being Vacationers which are sold on far too many planets to include on my diagrams for which I've selected Hamburg to represent as the most connected of the selection.
*Update 17/04* Passenger Rework V5
Switched to the alternate plan as it solves a lot more problems, the only two issues are the Mackinac - Curacao and the Baden - Denver which retain the upwards and downwards flow.
VIP’s removed from Golden Dragon and Hawaii.
Vacationers removed from Denver, Malta, Stuttgart, Holstein, Houston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles,, New Tokyo, New London and Cambridge.
Passengers_li to Denver removed
Passengers to Hamburg removed.
Passengers to Grand Vista removed.
VIP’s added to Denver
Passengers added to New London
Passengers_br added to New Tokyo
Vacationers added to Manhattan
Tourists added to New Berlin
Passengers_li connected to New Tokyo
Passengers_rh connected to Mackinac, New London, Manhattan
Passengers_br connected to Hamburg and New Berlin
Passengers_ku connected to Curacao, Baden Baden and Manhattan
Passengers connected to the Mackinac, Grand Vista, New Tokyo and Denver
Tourists connected to Denver and Manhattan
Vacationers connected to Mackinac and New London
VIP’s connected to Grand Vista, Baden Baden, Hamburg and New London
I've already contacted the Hogosha who have been kind enough to consent to the VIP's being moved though I would like to replace them with something favourable to the Hogosha, making the change a positive one for all concerned. Now it's time to hand the idea over to you, the community to provide feedback and ideas to improve the idea before a proper submission.
I don't know much about the whole situation but I was always considering doing some chill trading with a passenger liner or so.
First of I like the easier layout and it shouldn't be too big a problem to implement I guess? But I wish there were more planets involved in your chart. But that might be just me.
Looking forward to an easier and more efficient passenger system though. I quite enjoy to see a liner from time to time. Seeing passengers being transported inrp and not in cargo transports.
I can give one comment.
What is the RP reasons as to why VIPs are on Denver and not in a Casino or on Hawaii anymore?
Don't they kinda fit there better in terms of lore and stuff?
Yeah he has a point there. Can we make VIPs come from very important places and go to very important places? I guess that would fit better but also ruin your nice circle a bit.
Well also the simple fact of the matter is that you do not have to have a perfect circle with the planet or base having your next commodity to take. You can have them a bit spread out and it wont hurt that much. Golden Dragon is like... 2 system jumps away from colorado since it is in Shikoku.
Also a possibility , what about the people who use ships to get to work?......Taxis and ferry service would play a part in it as not every citizen (?) owns a space worthy ship. People gotta get to work somehow. And that is something that could be added in almost every house system, and in the outer reaches.
I don't believe that there is every day travel to work for normal people. They probably live on their stations. But I guess some shuttles would make sense. But maybe not worth the hassle.

On most planets you have very important places so them selling VIPs shouldn't come as a surprise.

possibly a good idea but... it would be VERY inefficient to get to work each day using a spa and cruise passenger ship, don't you think?
Well there was the greyhound passenger service awhile back so its not outside the realm of possibility.
Anyway Denver was chosen as a more central point for our "big ticket" item and also to move it away from a group who by lore extort the Mackinac. The planet was selected as the infocard states that a large wealthy populace has taken control of the local government which sounds VIP to me.
Originally home to miners, smelters and shipyard workers, Denver has always had a sizeable population, but during the economic collapse of the silver industry in 600 A.S., many of the workers were put out of jobs and either left the system or ended up joining the nascent Xeno movement. The planetary population plummeted, with the remaining people left to scratch a living on Denver's farmsteads, and also in the small, but profitable, tourist industry. With the California water shortages continuing unabated, the wealthy elite of Los Angeles began to search for an alternative holiday destination and place to call home, and they found it in the guise of Denver's rough savannahs and beautiful, pristine beaches. The resulting emigration injected new life into the planet's economy, reviving its fortunes, even as the newly arrived upper class were in the process of systematically taking control of the local government authorities.
Nowadays the planetary population of Denver stands at a healthy 3.1 billion people, making it the second most populated planet in Liberty after Manhattan itself. Such is the attraction of Denver that Cryer Pharmaceuticals maintains one of the largest medical research facilities in Sirius, just outside the capital city of Crichton Springs, while the headquarters of the Ageira Technologies corporation and several manufacturing plants supporting its operation on Pueblo are also located on the planet. It is widely known that the Liberty Police are paid handsomely by the wealthy residents to ensure the continued peace and security of Denver.
@Skorak Other planets will be worked in but I'd like to get the "core" bases sorted first so that the various commmodities can be placed properly, granted not all of them may make it but I'd at least like to get the capital planets into the mix.
