After a fight it is either considered fair by both sides or there is a 'major imbalance' that happens and then one side gets hot headed and rages over the 'unfairness' of the pvp encounter.
In some ways I understand, while in other ways I find it all silly.

Lets start with the basics.

You have lets say a 2v2 snub furball fight. 1 bomber 1 VHF against 1 bomber 1 VHF.
The fight is going quite long and a 3rd guy from one team wants to join in.

In some situations people will rage that getting that 3rd guy was uncalled for from the start.

Now lets say this guy brings in a Gunboat.

Here is what I think about gunboats.

Strategically: It is a good idea for your team to get one for a snub fight to finish. A gunboat is a counter to snubs and so it would be a smart move to do for the 3rd player to ensure a win in the pvp.
in-game 'fun' however: It can be argued that the other team wont enjoy the pvp against the GB since they then will not be able to have a fair chance at winning. They will for sure then QQ when the gunboat comes in to clean the mess up.

So what can you do about it? Can the 3rd guy even come in? Maybe for the other team it would please them if he comes on a light fighter which strategically is a not so solid move. It is alright though...

We are not even going into details at the moment of if the two teams are same skilled or if the 3rd guy is a pro or sucks. This all factors into the end rage post-pvp.

Now what if the GB comes in with Solaris and Missiles. Those two things look to be designed for snub pvp but he is 'not allowed' to use them. Perhaps if he came with cerbs or pulses it would be 'better'? But then that makes no sense for the pvp encounter.

Like this whole thing can go on for a while into examining all the things that are unwritten that would 'ruin the pvp encounter'.
Sure, I understand that GB is overpowered... but then I see in a lot of cases that every time a GB comes in or starts a pvp with snubs, which is the intention of a GB, there is rage.

It is pretty silly. Can you not shoot back at it? Does it have an aura around it that makes it indestructible? Dunno.

On the other hand if you had a fight with light fighters and then a GB comes into that.... then it is game over for the side with only light fighters. But then again, they can just run away. What is wrong with that as well? So you didnt get your blue. Woooopsy no more fun because of that?

Anyway, I am on the fence.

Lets now talk about hugging things when pvping.

Base hugging:
Snubs spin around a base to avoid fire when they are almost dead and then dock at the last moment.
On one side, I feel for the people that want to just get the pvp over with. But then again, you are already winning the fight.
In general though this annoys most people.

PoB hugging:
Same thing as above.

Jump Gate Hugging:
So... you fly through the holes in a jump gate and it is apparently the WORST THING IN THE GAME TO DO IT AND YOU ARE THE WORST PERSON.
Ok.
Get out.

I understand sure.... the base thing is bad since at any point the guy can dock and finish the engagement.
That doesnt mean that a pilot that is outnumbered should then be not allowed to place obstacles between him and the pursuer to get at least a way to TURN AROUND.

Remember in star wars when there is a chase in an asteroid field and he goes through two rocks that are closing in on him?
Yeah. He is the worst person ever.

You know those times in WW2 when in dogfights the only way to get someone off your 6 is to drop down low to the ground and dodge that way?
Yep. Ground hugging. Worst pilot ever.

See the thing with space/plane pvp is that you cannot just use open space all the time.
Lets just remove everything in the game and have clear open space. Yeah. It will make everything all balanced then, wont it?
Lets just remove all the environment that you can use to temporally re-orientate yourself so that you stand a chance against 3 fighters on your tail that you cannot ditch.

Not everyone has the same skill and 'jump gate hugging' doesnt do anything against the pursuer besides not being able to line up always perfectly with a target.
OH
WELL
While the target is still taking damage there will still be rage because he got near to something installed in the game and is maneuvering around it like a realistic pilot would to get some kind of turn out of that to fire back.
MMK

There are more unwritten rules but you guys can fill in the rest.
Im going to go eat food.
im done.

edit:
Quote:I came back from my sandwich to add one more thing.

Apparently also dodging fire is also the worst thing ever and you should when ganked have to be forced to leave.
Otherwise you are just 'trolling' becasue you are skilled so well to dodge that 3 people that are shooting you feel they are being trolled that they cannot hit you.
Perhaps it is the 3 people that are the trolls though since they gank a helpless small insignificant shippie.

IMHO, if you are the one who initiates the hostilities, you deserve to deal with whatever strategies your opponent uses. If you are the one who opens fire and start pulling cheap tricks when your Ewok is being dented, then you are a baddie.

can you at least put some kind of constructive sentence and header to explain what the hell you're on about?

legitimately.

the way you formated your *long* post makes me want to flip you off and ignore your thread. it's really tiring to read, get to the point.

I'm going to assume you're complaining about GB usage in fights, well, gunboats tend to be stupidly hard to kill because of the whole shape of them, and them being hard to kill unless you have another gunboat or a swarm of >5 snubs. Gunboats are stupidly deadly, especially with Solaris.

I did, very politely, ask the players at the engagement this conversation is about to please stay away from the JG. My faction leader disallowed me from using said gunboat to shoot snubs, until they started hugging.

And then you hugged the gate.

And then I shot at you with missiles with the Durham.

I don't understand how you can be so wrong about everything, all the time,

You are LITERALLY COMPLAINING THAT YOU WERE INVOLVED IN A FIGHT.

Don't use this as an example, because you don't know what you're talking about. Pilots dropped to the deck as a last resort, specifically German and American pilots against the British and Japanese, respectively. German and American aircraft typically had very good high-speed performance and stability, and could simply outrun Spitfires and Zeroes. They weren't "dodging on the ground." A Focke-Wulf 190 "dodging" on the ground would have been a ridiculously easy kill for even the most early model of Spitfire.

Death from above.

Btw, wasn't there a capital bs involved?
And Jayce, tsk tsk. Missiles? You're losing your touch.
