So, a few weeks ago i decided to make a character to smuggle into new berlin for quick and easy credits. It was succesful. 11m around each travel. Around 10-20 minutes.
Then, i decided to make a junker character. I start mining premium scrap and sell it to the liberty rogues, 11m each travel, for just like, 5 minutes?
I hate to make a rant being so new in the community, but i cant stand it and i need to point it for everyone.
The only, and easiest way to get money is mining. Each other way is inneficient. Or at least that has been my experience.
Missions? Who does missions? They are clearly meant to be done in groups, but, its not worth it 2m just to fight aganist several gunships and end up dying alone. I feel that the rewards should be much, MUCH higher, to compensate that you need to split the reward. This way missions would be worth it.
And smuggling, it barely scratches what it gives compared to selling any ore.
The game needs a rebalance on some of its rewards to make mining not the only fastest source of credits.
Mining is and will probably always be the most profitable way to earn credits, best not doing it alone though, normal trading, is more designed for supplying and RP purposes, though it can be gratifying to complete a far run
The maximum that a normal trade run can be made is about 20 million depending on cargo and distance
game doesnt need a rebalance at all, its balanced already
miners mine, pirates pirate those miners because of the smell of credits, traders fly and risk those pirates as well, systems are balanced for that

Yeah, and because of mining its the most profitable way, any other way of earning credits is basically dead content, i have been smuggling artifacts to new berlin and it doesnt even compare to what you can get from gold to new berlin.
And pirate/police activity in some routes is unexistant, which makes it like a walk. I dont expect pirates/police anymore and i basically sell anything i want and ignore the system laws.
Its simply that new players at the start, they dont even know what to start with, and once they find that mining is the easiest way to make money, they are gonna be stuck like me.
Really, 3 of my characters are basically for exploiting trade routes. If one route gets assaulted, i can change to another and keep making money.
If you have a heavy battleship with 3-4 Cerberus turrets, you can make about 10--25 million per mission. Examples: Valor in Magellan/Leeds, Redemption in Dundee/Newcastle. It might be that mining is slightly better, but this is much more fun.
PS: The main reward in a mission is not the mission reward itself, but the loot the NPCs drop, like captains and credit cards. An NPC battleship generally drops loot worth 3 million credits.

Give me some years and i may be able to.
But, lets not derail the topic, for example, smuggling, why it barely gives any money?
Mining is as others have said meant to be a group effort but POBs have really messed with that.
More on point however I feel you are looking at it the wrong way. The game isn't about credits per second, It is about roleplay creating a character trying to make their way in the galaxy.
Personally I get a lot more enjoyment out of smuggling than mining as I feel my characters are more alive. That could also just be that I can't seem to write about miners though.

Mining is preferred because it is a group effort.
Well, that really depends, As a smuggler may choose to take Jump holes and cruise across systems instead of taking gates and lanes, Which will slow down the trip quite a bit, and not to mention law enforcement, If they catch you you cant really pay your way out of the situation, like you could with a pirate!
Honestly smuggling needs a small buff if you ask me, same with trading, because I see barely anyone smuggle/trade (Ive only smuggled once in my 1 and a half years of playing Discovery, since Mining is much more profitable!) compared to mining (However they do have to trade the ores if they are a lone miner, or working with transports, but thats besides the point), and It may bring some more frequent RP encounters to both lawful and unlawful factions!!
