Well basically you all noticed that just about everyone has with them a nuclear mine launcher. Thats all fine and dandy, it's a good weapon. But thinking about it one day I realised this.

Nuclear blasts are least effective in space, however they still produce a massive EMP, which would disable nearby electronics.

Now before I say anything else, no this is not an idea to nerf the nuclear mine, however make more types of higher powered mines.

Examples-

-an EMP mine, a shield buster one if you will
-a high tracking mine, lower damage, but maybe it goes 100 mps?
-maybe a "dumb mine", a mine with no movement and tracking (or very little of it) but does incredible damage if you happen to it it (like 1.75X a nuclear mine?)


Ideas? Opinions?

It would be a good idea, would introduce more mine tactics as well as realistic ones.

But that's all i can say really since i'm not really a big user of mines.

Well I use mines, not every fight, but do use them, and think this would give good diversity and realism. Thumbs up from me, but we'll see what the rest thinks..

I use mines when I'm trying to shake a target off my tail. Or when I'm jousting.

I'd like mines that didn't track me, when I'M the one who launched them.

Someone else realized nukes aren't that effective in space. It's true, and I find the nuclear mines to be rather uninspired anyway. I would also like to see more variety in mines (and torpedoes...)

As far as the nuke mines go specifically, I think their stats should be switched with a lesser mine (making the lesser mine what the nuke mine is now, so there's no loss.) Just a mild irritation.

Great! idea. i agree and maybe add a Nuke missile for capital ships!(replaces the CD and cost of missiles, like a torp very expencive and very powerful, with a large blast 1.2k and stronger then the mortar.) bit like BSG when they had nukes on it.

I like it but with few changes

1. launched from missile launchers with ammo (not those with power drain)
2. splash damage maximaly 50% + as nova topredo (jesus 1.2k kill all weapons of BS after single hit)
3. missile without tracking AI, flying only straight forward
4. aviable only for battleships
5. maximum - 2 launchers per ship

Don't you find we already have strong enough caps? If we upgrade 'em any more, then everyone will be flying 'em, because no one else will be able to take them out o.O

nucleart missile with those settings is usable only again another caps, I dont see problem in this.
