have you ever notice that the pirates sometimes have the good stuff(infernos, and Lawfuls aint alowed it, and is the only bomber/cap ship shield buster?) like the gunboats have more turrets or speed over lawfuls? since lawfuls are ment to be orginased compared to the pirates, which are dirty, second hand equitment(which they should have) and they mostly win against the lawfuls? which isnt right. and the gunboat beats the crusiers and battlecrusiers??? i mean how the hell does that happen!? its like a PT patrol boat vs a Crusier or destroyer or even a battlecrusier and they win? bit stupid since they are around 20mil and destroyers and crusiers are around 100mil and BCs are 240mil? bit unbalanced if you ask me.

I have only this to say, IF a Gunboat wins against a Battlecruiser or Destroyer, in a fair one on one fight, it's because the GB pilot has a better mastery over his or her ship than the Cruiser/BC pilot.

Simple as that, it's the pilot that makes the difference, not the ship.

I understand both Bad.Wolf and HeavyMetalQueen's.
To Bad.Wolf: Yes it has happened to me too, and I can't explain how GB's can dodge all the fire, and I have no oportunity to dodge. And It also looks pretty stupid that Lawful houses (that are supposed to have zillions of funds to investigate and buy good weapons and ships) are not actually having the best.
I guess it is due to the fact that this Mod is balanced thinking of Wars between houses (Lib vs Reinland, Bret vs Kus), and so Main houses have beig battlefleets thinking of big adversaries.
However current game play (at least for the last year) is based only in Lawful vs unlawfuls and smugglers, traders vs Pirates, BH hunting, etc. There are many promises about re-balancing in 4.85. Well will see what happens.

To HeavyMetalQueen: Yes you are right a good GB pilot should make if against a bad CC, BC pilot. My question to you is what is the tactic to follow for a CC/BC pilot when engaging a GB ?
-Move straight (trying to dodge) and shoot the GB all the time ? Tried that and I could not manage specially against small GB's like rogue, BH gunship, etc.
-Try turning ? No way against a GB
-Any other suggestion ?

PS. Loadout suggestions also welcomed.

Gunboats are the best capital ships ingame if flown well. Sorry.

Add to that, a certain Jim.Black on my own server, no weaponmods, soloed a Battlestar II on a rogue GB only with liberty turrets and a missile turret (i think, either that or it was OC turrets, not a rp server, so no oorp yelling there.)

Well, Jordi, I'd give you some pointers if I could, but I don't fly anything bigger than a GB, so I don't really have any idea of specific strategy, though, what I always try to do, no matter what I fly, is not let my enemy get behind me, and I always try to keep my movement's static, or atleast hard for my opponent to read, that of course is very difficult with a larger ship like a Cruiser or BC

strategy against gunboat? hah simple just follow these 2 simple rules

1. never fight with something smaller than you which is able to kill you (gunboat, bomber, smaller BC) in asteroid field because every small rock will own you.

2. never stay at place because you are biger distance with dodge unability of your ship will own you

Liberty GB is far better then most pirate GBs. More armor, turrets and a forward gun, also very good agility.
Capital ship Infernos, battlerazors and mortar are universal, everyone can use them.
All GBs have same speed.
And answer to your question is: Skill.

Those big forward guns were obviously nailed on for a reason...

not all gunboats are weaker than destroyers - and not all destroyers are weaker than gunboats.

take for example : corsair gunboat vs. BHG destroyer

both have 8 guns, both can fire 8 guns forward, - the BHG destroyer is - while being quite small - still larger than the corsair gunboat and a lot less agile.
the destroyer has more shieldpower and a bit more hull, but the corsair gunboat has a more efficient powerplant and weapons that make a better use of the power.
the destroyer has special warship weapons like the light mortar - but loosing energy for the destroyer has a greater impact on the destroyer cause it replenishes slower.

generally saying that - if a gunboat wins against a destroyer - that the skills are not equal is incorrect. - stats are very important there. - but one cannot say that every destroyer looses to every gunboat.

for example - a kusari destroyer most certainly wins against a kusari gunboat, due to the fact that the kusari GB can hardly drain the destroyers shields and the kusari destroyer is almost gunboat like. - skills? - hardly.

then there is the scorpion gunboat with its 8 guns vs. maybe even a liberty cruiser. - the liberty cruiser has a massive forward gun, but will not really be able to hit the gunboat - other than that, its lightly armoured. - the scorpion can win... .

it all depends on the battlesetups. - .... and of course on the pilots, too.
