I don't know if its any good but no harm running it past you so...

Interceptor class - Lightly Armed Though i would suggest it to have its own specialised weapon. Due to how i suggest such a ship would operate.. Lightly Shielded (Class 8 LF shield)

Running speed without thruster 199 i will explain this later... I would think of the models as a small LF ship (patriot for example) With VHF amount of engines. Plus some ominous looking thing (that looks like an engine.)

This would in fact be the thruster. Now heres where the "Balancing" comes in. the ship will have 4 minutes where it can move at just over cruise. That with the thruster. So this speed cant be exploited make it do what traders do and slow to its normal speed quickly. (1-2 secs). However the thruster power does not regenerate (i believe this is possible.)

The Purpose of this ship would be to intercept enemy vessels (such as bombers) at the outskirts of the territory of said faction. It would also serve as a smuggler catcher. As well as foiling terrorist plots. The speed it achieves is from a liquid fueled rocket booster (or something more futuristic.) It has smaller standard engines for conventional flight.

Now back onto the weapons... because of this ships special usage would it be possible to have a locked special weapon fitted which had a very high speed and rapid firing. As to disable hostiles from long distances without the need for cruise disruption technology.

I would have the turn rate of this ship quite low. As it is basically some ship that just chases after vessels. Plus with all that mass from the engines the turning would be hampered enormously.

As i say just rough ideas plus most of what i have said before has been shot down by simple flaws in what can be coded. So it will definitely need a fresh pair of eyes..

I'd say NO.

If your ship is faster than any other ship, what's the point of being a Smuggler if you're gonna catch him anyway?

Well I like it, would definitely add to the realism, I mean, factions would definitely try to develop that sort of thing, so mere smugglers, terrorists, and enemies in general, couldn't tease them around their home systems, while they are for example 3K out the whole time.
And as for the balance thing, I don't think this would give too great an advantage to that sort of ships, as they would be good only for intercepting, not destroying.

Although I voice the concern of OORP usage of such ships, for example, some pirate could get one, and abuse it for pirating needs.
So, I consider it should only be owned by system owning factions. Just my opinion. OR, make them limited, so not everyone can use them, for example just a few allowed for a faction(even less, or more, depending on the faction's economic and technological strength)..

Well, that's all from me, for now..
Final vote: Like it, just needs to be worked on some more, but good in any case, good idea!

Well, im going to rise this matter once agian.. With my tought.

Why we need to make it so difficult, then there is possible to put dual trusters on the ship? Tu catch up with the fleeing ship? Of course ships who have the truster advantage wouldnt have enought firepower to deal a lot of damage in the fights.

And to balance the dodgint ability, perhaps those ships do not need a fast turn rate or semthing, anyway, just a dumb suggestion.

Nah sorry, We're in space. Mass doesn't do anything, there's no gravity or those kinda things. And, if it would have weaker weaponry, that's a good weakness enough.

What I'd like with this ship would be a "ion cannon" just as in Star wars. The ion cannon is used as some kind of an E.M.P. weapon that disables ships. In fact, I'm going to suggest this weapon.

Some time ago NEXUS suggested modding the Arrow, being the only real current 'interceptor', giving it a thrust speed equal to or slightly better than the cruise speed of most ships, but also making it so used thrust doesn't regenerate until you dock (which IS possible, apparently). He tested it and it turned out to be pretty useless in combat... Thrusting in combat burns through the 'fuel' at a pretty quick rate, and thrusting at that speed makes it pretty impossible to actually fight. But it's good at its purpose: Chasing down and CDing ships.

Wrong, mass means everything in space. Half of the ships in disco would just spin round in circles as they drifted through the void if they were actually real.
