In any pvp situation I've encountered so far, I really have used my batteries or nanobots because it just feels "cheap". Nothing is more fun when your on the brink of destruction, hoping that your shield recharges.. But then again it also just feels like I'm just wasting them since I usually have full supply anyway.. But I guess if I see their hull repair, I guess I should be justified on this situation.
What is your personal take on the situation? I guess I should just start using them all the time.

Well use of recharges depends on your enemy weaponary.
For instance, if enemy is armed with only guns and CD, without mines you are safe without shield and up to half hull. Since he cannot insta kill you with his guns.
If enemy has any kind of ordinance, you need hull, and shield when ever able unless you want to loose guns.
Also, since shield regenerates pretty fast, I usually use batteries for running away. Sinc you can usually get shield up twice from them... pretty much time to run.
During a friendly duel or training exercises it is common to not use batts/bots. However when fighting for your life or during war anything goes, fight to survive. Of course I do not mean throw fairness out the window but use all weapons at your disposal.
The problem with running without shields is when you're getting hit with missiles or mines. These will damage and then destroy your weapons, thruster, CMs etc, and nanobots don't repair that damage. Get hit too often, and you become a sitting duck. Been there, done that, got killed.
That was a good fight earlier, by the way. I managed to squeak out of a 50-minute slow grind with those SCRA, despite most of my guns being in the red after some random gunboat decided to play Jump the Junker.
(I was that Junker)
I personally use regens when I feel they're needed. I'll lay off them the first bit to gauge relative damage output and who's the better shot. If I'm getting smoked by either superior firepower or the guy's just damn good, I'll start leaning on them. I try to be a good sport when it comes to my fights.
If I feel I'm in control of the fight, I'll wait for him to regen first. This is also when I'm more vocal while fighting. If the opponent is brutal and I start to lose, then I just get dirty.

I beg to differ, if the other guy outturns you drastically on even one pass, and is a good shot, he'll strip your hull down before you have time to react.
Also, I use regens whenever I lose more thsn one bar of hull, nothing worse than getting insta'd due to a razor shot insta killing you because you didn't regen *looks at Zach*, been there done that for me.

That's when you spiral and mash the hell out of your afterburner.

My style too. I'll rather bleed them slowly than run the risk of being insta-killed. On the bats I tend to conserve for emergencies OR if the guy is packing missiles which work nasty stuff to your guns.
ON this server we PvP on a roleplay basis, thus using bots and bats to keep yourself alive during PvP is advised. It's common practice here to do so, unlike most PvP servers where bots and bats are considered bad form.
On pvp servers they arn't used in order to keep fights shorter. Here it's not quite so pvp oriented, and timing of their use is a tactical choice. It adds a greater depth and strategic element to combat IMO.
So unless both parties agree not to use them, use your regens.
