Formal summary:

Achille Augustain Nadeau is a renowned (or, at least, he believes he is) grey market trader, gambler and confidence trickster from the inaccessible system of Maine, and has occupied most of his life preoccupying himself with acts of small-time adventures into the boundaries of the law to fund highly expensive, often abortive, private space exploration and exploitation ventures within the lesser charted regions of Sirius and Gallia. Nadeau is torn between his dandified, cosmopolitan love for material luxuries and his misanthropic dislike of the codifying norms of public society, often becoming rude and recalcitrant if he believes he is becoming socially staid. Whilst an ardent royalist and an exponent of the virtues of his house of birth, Achille remains enamoured with the wonders of Sirius and often goes to great lengths to preserve his ability to access them - rarely antagonising the Bretonian or Libertonian legal authorities if it can be helped.

Achille ran for three years the highly successful borderworlds trade organisation and secret society known as “The Commonwealth”, creating an off-the-books illegitimate trade artery between the Maltese and the Gallics whilst both sides remained at war with each other. Whilst the cargo shipped was always technically legitimate - cardamine was never hauled by CW transports, Achille perpetually dabbled with the fringes of the law. Disguising corruptibility behind legitimate enterprise, Achille funded off-the-books blue skies research expeditions into the Omicron worlds, resulting in the infection of several of his subordinates. Narrowly escaping Order attention, Achille used the political vacuum left by the Zoner Civil war between the Zoner Alliance and the remains of the Omicroners to leverage assets from the Omega regions, becoming the temporary nominal overseer of both Freeport 10, Freeport 5, and the newly constructed Freeport 101 within the Omega 9 system. Achille’s ruthless administration made the commonwealth significantly wealthy, fostering relations with known pirate groups such as the Junker Marauders and conducting fencing operations of stolen Sirian goods into the Gallian lawful market, although this exploitation of the Sirian trade arteries made him considerable opposition within the Confederation of Freeports. Achille’s impatience for Discordianism and general cynicism towards the cult’s confrontational attitude regarding the Roi eventually lead to a head with the accusation of him discriminating against the cult’s theological practices aboard Freeport 5. With the failed insurance scam that was the destruction of Freeport 101 and the opening of Leeds to mainstream Gallic cooporatocracy, Achille’s personal wealth plummeted. Newly depressed and resentful to a Sirius that had rejected him, Achille took whatever assets he could persuade to follow him and crossed the border into Lorraine, wherein he disappeared for a year, utilising his considerable experience as a tradesman to rebuild his fortunes through investments in EFL and IDF.


He still considers himself a Zoner, despite day-to-day employment as a middle executive within Ill-De-France shipping, the source of the majority of his personal wealth since the loss of his Commonwealth acquisitions, and his residence within the gallic core worlds. Achille has occasionally made attempts to recover his position of prominence within the COF, but his often dysfunctional relationship with the majority of the Zoner movement frequently inhibits him. Achille retains around him much of his retinue from his Commonwealth years, including his scimitar light fighter and the majority crew of The Concurrence, still registered to Freeport Ten, The Foudroyant, an Osprey Mark 2 heavy escort and the Theresa, a ten man zoner gunship. Many of these vessels currently remain impounded within various systems, but Achille appears to be in in the process of reactivating all of them.

Achille is aggressive, often mean-minded and petty, but a keen defender of those he considers to be his friends - or better, his sparring-partners. The way to Achille’s heart is through the debate table, and he has a special plinth located for Tara Snow - the only person who he ever truly considered a sister. It is unclear how much of a connection with the Nomads Achille actually has - he is, more likely than not, uninfected.
