Sanction.

Is that really what this mod has come down to?

It seems to me from recent posts by the admins that they expect sanctions to handle every problem on this server. They've completely removed any say that players here have in the matter - if you try to do things yourself and save the admins trouble, you get sanctioned. If anyone does anything you dont like, hey, why not submit a sanction report!

This server is run by RP, and that RP is established by the players here. Without the players, you have no server, you have no RP, and you have no mod. Where the hell do you think we're going to get if you automatically label every RP project here as 'non-canon' and start sanctioning people for it?

What I find even more unnerving is that all of these sanctions are being put forth by Xoria and Del, two of the 'newest' admins we have. Where are the rest? Why has control of this server been left to two people who quite obviously dont give a rat's backside about the consequences of their actions?

Yes, some people who really do break rules deserve to be sanctioned. But as the admins have said countless times before, sanctions are a last resort! - that isnt how they're being treated, though. Every time anyone has a problem here, it seems a sanction is the solution.

To the two admins mentioned above: Please, lay off, you are not helping the situation on this server. Make damn sure that there is nothing else that can be done to solve a problem before you start throwing out sanctions to handle it.

A majority of the problems I've seen lately could have been handled in-game, in-RP, by the PLAYERS, and would have ended better for everyone. Instead, the admins start flinging around the sanction hammer, ruining this mod for everyone who plays on it. Honestly, what would Igiss say to this situation? I understand he's a busy guy, but do you really think he would support beating, killing, and maiming everyone's RP here just because it isnt 'canon'? Do you really want this server to stagnate and rot because you wont allow people to expand on their own factions?

If your answer is yes, I honestly feel bad for you, you never deserved the position you were given in the first place.

I'm just going to say that it bothers me when those with no rp get made when something happens to them in-rp and have no sportsmanship and sanction them right off the bat.

Completely unfair and not fun at all. I suggest research be done on the actual events before the sanction is even deployed? Maybe background checks, forum activity, things to see if the sanction is viable and if maybe the person reporting deserves to get their way?

oh, you mean besides the fact that it isn't just one admin doling out sanctions, but the team works behind the scenes to come to a consensus before one of them posts? or the fact that maybe, each of them takes a day of the week and makes the sanction posts after they are reviewed by the team?

Or it could be that these people getting sanctioned might deserve it? I been here quite a while, never been sanctioned yet. I don't think you have yet either, although if spam were against the rules...

I'm not involved in the recent sanction, and I probably should keep my mouth shut. ... Okay, so much for that hope...

I'm also the assistant director of an official faction on this server that, while our specific faction has no issues, our actual ID gets MORE gripes, complaints, and whines than basically all other ID's on this server combined because of RP, and that's Bounty Hunter.

There are attempts to dictate RP to hunters by every criminal in Sirius - primarily because the Hunter ID has the most potential for abuse, and has in the past also been abused by, quite frankly, a lot of people that only sought PvP combat.

So be it. I think that all of those who have interacted with the faction I am proud to be a member of would say that we do an above average job of role playing as our ID indicates that we should. You'll note that key there - we're actually doing what we're supposed to do.

I'm not saying this to fan any flames - I do think that what has happened is, in some sense, similar to other things we've seen in the past on this server when a faction goes against the RP as indicated by the ID.

4.6 Remember that Discovery is a roleplaying server. Factions and faction members (just like all other players) are obliged to act in the way their reputation and status require. Factions are expected to set an example in role-play.

4.7 Sanctions for violating faction rules by one player range from a warning to a credit/equipment fine and placing inside the prison system. Sanctions for out-of-RP behaviour in-game depends on amount of other server rules violated, including OOC chat rules, PvP engagement rules, ID rules, and others. Sanctions for out-of-RP behaviour include a credit/equipment fine and placing inside the prison system, as well as ban if accompanied by more serious violations.

4.8 Sanctions for violating faction rules, including out-of-RP behaviour, may be applied to the whole faction as well as a certain player. This may happen if a large part of the faction is violating the rules specified, and if the leader(s) of the faction endorse the violations committed by players, ignore the warnings and do not attempt to improve the situation, or violate rules themselves. Sanctions for a faction include credit/equipment fine and placing inside the prison system for all characters or part of characters belonging to a faction.

If you look at the Wiki - the enemies of Bounty Hunters are criminals and the Order. The enemies of the Order are LN, LSF, LPI, and Bounty Hunters.

Okay, as a Bounty Hunter and member an official faction, I've been told time and time again that I cannot regulate the role play of the independant hunters. I can help enforce the house laws if asked by a member of the military or police in that house. If necessary, I could assist the house police in taking down a bounty hunter that breaks house laws IN THAT HOUSE. But I cannot dictate to an independant bounty hunter how he roleplays his character. I do not have that right - and neither do you.

Was this a harsh sanction? Probably. Is there actually a need to make this personal like your comment has done? Not at all. We just went through the drama of the DW leaving the server due to what they called an unjustified sanction - even with the evidence to support that they were primarily engaging in PvP (and anyone that went to their website knew that's why they were here, not for RP).

I mean - seriously - that warning was posted in SEPTEMBER about just this situation potentially occurring. To me, it seems that this was foresight by the Admins that something like this was coming. It's now three FULL months later. What did you expect to have happen, get a cookie handed to you? They told you that your behavior towards other players was not going to be accepted or allowed, and when you went ahead and did it anyway, they smacked you down ... hard.

I'd have been out of the job within three weeks. Yeah I post em, but I don't do them alone. Consensus is required, and we get it. Actually I've been arguing AGAINST the Bs| sanction in the Admin forums, so what do you think now?

One of our Admin rules is that we ignore NO report we get submitted and we act upon the evidence given, so we do what we are required to do by Igiss.

Don't give a rat's ass about the consequences of my actions? Well thank you, I spend an awful lot of time worrying about how my actions affect this server, it bothers me that these sanctions have negative effects beyond their intended. What upsets me more however is you demanding we spend three hours on every sanction and yet you throw an accusation like that with zero research yourself.

I am offended by this, severely so. Thank you. You've become one more reason that I'm thinking of quitting.

Also, Agmen, some of the info on that Order quote are actually new to me and some of it doesn't seem very believable, atleast the very beginning and very end, where did you get that from, the wiki I guess? Wiki is changeable by anyone so maybe someone was screwing around with it, but if this gets locked before you post, could you pm me the source? thanks.
