just wondering, i know discovery has been around for year i use to play when 8.4 , i think it was, came out then got off till recently have you guys ever thought about player payed content to help pay for the game? it could be stuff that you can get in-game or stuff that wont impact the game play but still is just for payed members. i know i do not have a lot of time for grinding but love building stuff on fl so things like this would help me a lot.
Please not. Even when it's easy from someone who never did a financial donation for the server: Mixing gameplay with RL commerce is the worst thing and always an indicator of a 'free' game taking the wrong direction.
Aside from that, with admins that are said to show first signs of a burn out after a few weeks of actually being admin, we shouldn't make things even more complicated.
i obviously know there isn't currently any paid content, at least advertised. but i do not see how how it could hurt the game as long as it don't get greedy. if anything i think it would improve because not every body has time to grind for hours. but they may have a few extra dollars they do not mind spending on a game they normally just wouldn't donate to.
Simply as it would create a second layer of communty: Those who RP their special content and those who just buy it. It's a horrible concept and basically the reason why, for example, browsergames like en.stne.net and other games went into the abyss.
i don't know. i think it would be possible if the developers wasn't trying to get rich. i think that happens when people are greedy and not really just lovers of the game.
I agree with sombra. The server is running just fine on donations. If you dont have the time to work for the ships you want, why would you have the time to RP those ships properly?
P.S.: This mod may be a full conversion (well, mostly, anyway), but Microsoft still holds all rights and licenses to it. So if there was a pay option other than a donation, any half-decent law department could easily make a case to make alot of money for THEM. Sure, its an old game, but Microsoft is a dinosaur you dont want to mess with.
The thing is, the game lives literally from people grinding. It's similar to leveling in MMOs, as that's a major part of those games, the other part being the high-level PvP/PvE. The thing is, when you take that away from people, you have even less people flying around as traders, less people logging to pirate traders and less people logging to fight the pirates.
