Good day, everyone.
Starting from tomorrow, we are implementing a trial run to fix some often-reported gameplay issues within the Omegas. This trial will last for a month and we will be monitoring the results in order to decide how this changes the overall gameplay in the region.

Effective after the next server restart/crash, the following IDs (indie and official where acceptable) have received the following changes:

RM and MND have been given Omega 3 as their ZOI.
BAF and BIS have been given Omega 7 as their ZOI.

We expect that the roleplay that has been done between the two houses should cover most RP-related issues with actually allowing these changes.

~Administration Team

Feedback time. The trial time has passed and we would like to have input on the situation change in the region.

Seriously?

So the German army goes into Poland to police things there? That's gonna work well, will it?
The Mexican Army crosses the border to the US to hunt a smuggler? Oh yeah, that will definitely be okayed by both sides.

Realism aspects aside, this takes away the LAST BIT that was sometimes left of the "Border Worlds", literally making it even more policed right now.

That's exactly what is not needed in the Omega Border Worlds.

Wait for interactions to actually happen and then discuss them in this thread, please.

They wouldn't have done it if thr official faction leaders hadn't discussed it with them. That's why there are blue names. Would have expected one of those blue names to udberstand that.

This is a nice change, and i feel like it makes sense cinsidering the RP done in he past.

Just answer me: Does that make sense?
Isn't that just dumb?
Because for me it for sure sounds like it.

I have a signature for the sake of usefulness rather than aesthetics. You can find a link to Bretonian treaties there, among them the one with Rheinland. A new one should be in the process of being made, which was halted a couple of months ago due to some people being inactive, and the RM not having o-3 in its ZOI any more. This should be fixed now, I hope.

I can't give you the reasons why the existing treaties were made, as I wasn't there at the time, but I can assure you that they came out of series of more-than-simple events, and that they are quite useful today.

Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad.
I will just quote myself from a thread discussing this two months ago:
"There should not be a system where two military and polices can go(except for war), no matter the treaties between the houses. The point of the game is not to make universe "safe" or to pwn mean pirates that steal your stuff or whatever, its to make it fun, so there should be some kind of danger when you go between houses, I mean you are going away from the capital system. Those are borderworld systems (you see the word border in there) meaning its far away and "dangerous". O3 and O7 are not even the outer regions. If you want it safe all the way go with freelance or corporate escorts."

I think there is something to what Jack is saying. Not about the RM and BAF or this spot specifically I think, but in general, part of what makes this game such a classic is the wild west kind of mentality behind the border worlds and rim worlds. We have pretty much removed that from that game at this point. Everything is some houses' space. The Sigmas belong to the GMG, The Omicrons are split between the Sairs and the OC, the Omegas are split between the Sair and the Hessians and now BAF and RM. There is no wild west anymore in Disco, no place that is not under the law of this group of players or that and it can really be detrimental to the development of RP. Anyone who wants to rp something, almost anywhere in Sirius at this point has to get some player's permission to do it. There should be places that aren't under anyone's control, places where there is no law aside from the law of the gun. Such a huge part of the excitement of the SP was moving out of house space, feeling like you really were in a place where there were no laws. When you want to start a new group, a new station, and new rp of any kind, you have to go through the list of people you need to get permission from, and if you don't, oh boy, you will have an admin sponsored smack down on it. I would be less concerned if I thought that official factions were interested in helping individuals and the server as a whole to allow for everyone to create interesting rp, but everything I have seen since I returned and everything I have been told makes me think that official factions are really just in it to get bells and whistles for their own players, and to feel like big men pushing other people around. Because I can't trust official factions to be supportive of non-faction members trying to do interesting things, there should be space where the Houses, including the Sairs and OC, don't have jurisdiction, and can't enforce their laws and wills on other players. It's important to have that kind of "wilderness" of the game.

There was a time when official factions would oorp, help others to try to develop something interesting, even if it was against the in-rp interests of the faction. That time is apparently gone, so it is even more important to have "Free Space" for non-faction players to be able to develop without the harassment of the "Houses"

Edit: @sindroms The problem with doing this as a "test" is that you aren't going to see evidence of a lack of something like this. You wouldn't be able to point at RP that didn't happen because the space wasn't there to do it, and you won't be able to point to O3 and O7 specifically, because it is a larger issue that just these two systems. There is no metric to measure lost opportunity in Disco.

Complete agreement. I think you nailed it pretty well here, Zelot.

I have been pleading for wilder Borderworlds forever (for those reasons you mentioned), but development and admins have handed more and more control over it to Houses in successive changes.
